i'm new to the dvd burning thing. i went to walmart to get some dvd's and got some memorex dvd -r 8x. i dl'ed dvd identifier and got this ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Unique Disc Identifier : [DVD-R:CMC MAG. AE1] ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Disc & Book Type : [DVD-R] - [DVD-R] Manufacturer Name : [CMC Magnetics Corp.] Manufacturer ID : [CMC MAG. AE1] Blank Disc Capacity : [2,298,496 Sectors = 4.71 GB (4.38 GiB)] ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- [ DVD Identifier V4.2.0 - http://DVD.Identifier.CDfreaks.com ] ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- The first 3 discs I tried to burn on 8x and it failed at 30%. But then I decided to cut it back to 4x and I haven't had a single problem yet. Why is everyone against memorex?
@Messey007, I gues its because of everyones past experience with these discs. At the moment you've been successful in burning a few but when you have finished your supply and then take stock of the failures you will see why Memorex is not disc of choice here. Good luck with your future burning.
I beleive 4 different companys make memorex media. Remember the old saying which is so true, you get what you pay for. Is it live or is it skippy freeze memorex ?
@Messy007 Problem w/ memorex as mcalister said - is they use different manufacturers. Mostly CMC which is crap due to dye quality, application and low quality control. Most of us have had bad experineces with them. If they do burn they will eventually degrade and the discs will have playback problems or won't play at all. Trying to copy them again is another problem - you'll usually get read errors. Unfortunatley you bought the ones made by CMC. Stick with Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim.
LONGTERM memorex is NO good very poor quality and this is based on FACT not opinion read this article ,use Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim http://www.digitalfaq.com/media/dvdmedia.htm
