Any opinions on which is better for low-cost general use. From what I've read - thermal is more permanent - inkjet more colorful (but not water-proof).
but you need a thermal printer in order to print on thermal dvds.. inkjet printers will print on it.. but in the end it will rub right off...
@drm819, I have been using Inkjet printable discs for a while now and have NOT had any trouble with color being waterproof but then why would you want to subject your discs to water anyhow? As for the question re Thermal on Ink jet the answer is no, a different disc completely.
I use the inkjet hub printables and I love it! it almost looks identical to the original!!!!! it's great! water soluable!!!!! who wants to wash the other side of the disk??? come on, do you live in a flood zone???
I think when referring to not "water proof", one may be referring to a coaster and the glass that is sitting on top of it...sweating. LOL
that can only mean one thing to me....... don't put water on it!!!! flood zone or not...... keep your disks away from water!!! you'll be happy you did. that's all I'm saying!
I wasn't singling you or anyone out, I just thought it was funny that the whole water proof topic would even be a factor.
Little ones with wet hands will smear the ink.I spray them ( label side only )with a lite coat of clear acrylic.Brings out the color and kid proofs the label side. They are the reason I need back up copies.
Good idea...I've often thought of spraying my old non-printable with some white paint or something and trying to print on them.
Tried that, too. Painted primer on, wouldn`t stick.Tried roughing up surface ,then painted with primer, still wouldn`t stick.Better to just re-burn on printable disc.Taiyo Yuden printable at Rima for $.35 ea.
Surprised my original question brought us to the great "flood zone" -but then again -- out of the waters came my answer (thanks Jerryp48). Yes, "little ones with wet hands" can (do) smear the ink. I'll give the acrylic spray a try. It might give me the best of both worlds -- colorful and kidproof.
