DVD+RW/Writing Software/"lost Codec" Issue

Hello Everyone,

I’m not certain this is the place for my question pertaining to the issue I’m experiencing, if not, I do apologize, and would hope someone might direct me to an appropriate online forum.

The issue I’m experiencing is my sudden inability to securely write Back-up files saved on my PC’s C-Drive and External Hard-Drive to DVD+RW disks usually a no-brainer. Added to which I can no longer copy previously written files, chiefly, video files from DVD+RW disks back onto my PC whether it be to my C-Drive or an External Hard-Drive. Whenever I attempt to open copied files from a DVD+RW I can either not view the files, or when I right-click to copy the file to a location on my PC I receive a “cyclic redundancy” error or my system locks. This has been going-on for almost 2 mos now, and is rather frustrating.

I finally spoke to a Dell Tech who at first was convinced the issue was software related; citing “cyclic redundancy” error which he said had to do with the codecs in which the original files were written to the DVD+RW disks. He suggested uninstalling/re-installing my writing software, which is Roxio Easy CD Creator Platinum, as well as attempting the trial of Nero. I did both, one-at-a-time and the same issue presented itself. While both software apps appeared to write to the DVD+RW disk, in the end, I couldn’t access the files. When I would try to read them, I would be told the disk was blank. However, I believed it was a hardware issue and today my DVD+RW drive was replaced, allowing me to actually open all the previous disks and actually write and copy. However, several of my Back-up DVD+RW disks contain video files most of which I cannot copy back to my C and External drives. Can my video files be restored or are they now junk?

The bigger issue for me concerns my present inability to safely and securely write Back-up DVD+RW disks allowing me to free-up space on either my C or External Drives, for me the point of having External Hard Drives in the first place.

If anyone can assist me with this issue, I’d be much obliged.

The first thing you should do is remove either Roxio or Nero, they do not co-exist very well together on the same machine. A complete removal tool for either is available on the internet. Removing the programs with Windows removal method leaves remnants behind. Re-install your burning program of chioce most ADers including myself prefer Nero. After you install the burning software try doing your thing again and see if it helps.
