I downloaded an avi file from the net. It doesn't play on my laptop but plays pretty ok on my desktop. I checked the avi with G-spot (on my destop) and it says it's not an avi file. I don't get it. If it's not an avi so what is that? my desktop still plays it but won't recognize it as an avi.
    Any help on this one?
    Thanks

Could be any number of media formats. You should be able to tell on the desktop by what filters are used to play it back (assuming a dshow based player). Other wise try something like Media Info, which supports more formats than GSpot.
