Downloading & Burning to DVD's from Limewire

Hi,

Could anyone please tell me the best files to download from Limewire for movies (ie .avi, mpeg etc) and how to burn these to a dvd to watch on a normal tv.
I have downloaded a file which used .avi but windows media player would not accept this.
