How many times have you changed the drives's region in the past? There's usually a limit of 5 changes on RPC2 drives. The 5th change locks the drive to that region. Download the following and run it. It should tell you how many changes you have remaining. http://www.remoteselector.com/driveinfo.htm If your drive is locked to a region because your changes are exhausted, two solutions are possible. The first is locating software to reset the change count and the second is to flash your drive's firmware to a region-free version. Run the program above and repost with the info. Let us know the brand, model, and firmware version of your burner (from the program) and someone will help you find some region-free firmware for your drive, if it exists, assuming that's the problem.
user changes is 1 left manufacturer changes is 4 left status: permanent, but can be changed by manufacturer stuck on region code 1 and needs to go back to 4 is my problem megs009
I haven't seen this before, Megs. The permanent status means the user can't change the setting. What brand and model of burner do you have?
You should be able to flash the region-free firmware for the DVR105 located here: http://gradius.rpc1.org/ or http://pioneerdvd.rpc1.org/ I have no idea if this will solve the problem for sure as I have never seen a permanent region status with a user change still available. I also have to state that flashing firmware usually voids the warranty but the drive is beyond warranty anyway and is no longer supported by Pioneer. In the future you might consider acquiring AnyDVD or other software which makes any region-coded DVD appear as region-free. I believe the cost is/was $29US for AnyDVD. There is a 21-day free trial. http://www.slysoft.com I didn't have time to look for any software to reset the counter or to locate the manufacturer code to reset the counter. I'd try the firmware flash myself. It's really about time to upgrade your drive anyway. Many problems can be left behind for $40US.
