I have an I/O Magic 16x DVD+_RW/+_R internal dual layer dvd burner that is having issues. I think the model is IDVD16DD. I have no real idea what is wrong with it but I have the error report. Has been tried with some crappy Compusa DVD- and good sony DVD+. I think both reaports are the same but better to be safe than sorry. Any help is greatly appreciated. -Thanks #1----- Windows XP 5.1 IA32 WinAspi: - ahead WinASPI: File 'C:\Program Files\Ahead\Nero\Wnaspi32.dll': Ver=2.0.1.74, size=164112 bytes, created 10/26/2004 5:35:34 PM Nero Version: 6.6.0.16 Internal Version: 6, 6, 0, 16b (Nero Express) Recorder: <BENQ DVD DD DW1620> Version: B7V9 - HA 1 TA 0 - 6.6.0.16 Adapter driver: <atapi> HA 1 Drive buffer : 2048kB Bus Type : default (0) -> ATAPI, detected: ATAPI CD-ROM: <BENQ DVD DD DW1620 >Version: B7V9 - HA 1 TA 0 - 6.6.0.16 Adapter driver: <atapi> HA 1 === Scsi-Device-Map === DiskPeripheral : WDC WD400EB-75CPF0 atapi Port 0 ID 0 DMA: On CdRomPeripheral : BENQ DVD DD DW1620 atapi Port 1 ID 0 DMA: On CdRomPeripheral : Generic DVD-ROM 1.0 d347prt Port 2 ID 0 DMA: Off === CDRom-Device-Map === BENQ DVD DD DW1620 E: CDRom0 Generic DVD-ROM D: CDRom1 ======================= AutoRun : 1 Excluded drive IDs: WriteBufferSize: 83886080 (0) Byte ShowDrvBufStat : 0 BUFE : 0 Physical memory : 1022MB (1046528kB) Free physical memory: 652MB (668228kB) Memory in use : 36 % Uncached PFiles: 0x0 Use Inquiry : 1 Global Bus Type: default (0) Check supported media : Disabled (0) 24.11.2005 UDF compilation 11:16:14 AM #1 Text 0 File Isodoc.cpp, Line 6356 UDF document burn settings ------------------------------------------ Determine maximum speed : FALSE Simulate : FALSE Write : TRUE Finalize CD : TRUE Multisession : FALSE Burning mode : DAO Mode : 1 UDF Mode : pure UDF Revision : 1.02 UDF Partition Type : physical 11:16:14 AM #2 Text 0 File Reader.cpp, Line 127 Reader running 11:16:14 AM #3 Text 0 File Writer.cpp, Line 122 Writer BENQ DVD DD DW1620 running 11:16:14 AM #4 Text 0 File Burncd.cpp, Line 3233 Turn on Disc-At-Once, using DVD media 11:16:14 AM #5 Text 0 File DlgWaitCD.cpp, Line 270 Last possible write address on media: 2298495 (510:46.45, 4489MB) Last address to be written: 1349295 (299:50.45, 2635MB) 11:16:14 AM #6 Text 0 File DlgWaitCD.cpp, Line 282 Write in overburning mode: NO (enabled: CD) 11:16:14 AM #7 Text 0 File DlgWaitCD.cpp, Line 2483 Recorder: BENQ DVD DD DW1620, Media type: DVD-R Disc Manufacturer: OPTODI - SCK001 Disc Application Code: 64, Disc Physical Code: 193 11:16:14 AM #8 Text 0 File DlgWaitCD.cpp, Line 448 >>> Protocol of DlgWaitCD activities: <<< ========================================= 11:16:14 AM #9 Text 0 File ThreadedTransferInterface.cpp, Line 838 Setup items (after recorder preparation) 0: TRM_DATA_MODE1 () 2 indices, index0 (150) not provided original disc pos #0 + 1349296 (1349296) = #1349296/299:50.46 relocatable, disc pos for caching/writing not required/ required, no patch infos -> TRM_DATA_MODE1, 2048, config 0, wanted index0 0 blocks, length 1349296 blocks [BENQ DVD DD DW1620] -------------------------------------------------------------- 11:16:14 AM #10 Text 0 File ThreadedTransferInterface.cpp, Line 1051 Prepare recorder [BENQ DVD DD DW1620] for write in CUE-sheet-DAO DAO infos: ========== MCN: "" TOCType: 0x00; This is your drive...its a rebadged BenQ, excellent drive. Your firmware is one version old. Get the latest firmware version (b7w9) here: http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_result.php?kaj=1&isces Your Nero is also old...current version is 6.6.0.18 DMA should be turned on for all drives. Cheap media can cause as many problems as not having the PC plugged in. Not familiar with this brand, but some good ones include Verbatim, Ritek, Taiyo Yuden and Sony, Maxell, Fuji (Made in Japan). These are just a few things I saw, and fixing them will probably get you burning again it no time.
Hello LOCOENG, Just so you know, you will never see DMA ON for this device: This is a virtual drive create by Daemon Tools v3.47 ! I think this is Roxio DirectCD (Packet Writting Drivers). If you don't use it, I would remove this, as it may conflict and cause issues. But as stated above, I would definitly upgrade the firmware ! My 2 cents...
Have you tried dumping out an ISO image file from NeroVision and then burning with DVD Decrypter or ImgBurn? I always have problems with NVE burning. LOCOENG is very correct about the use of good quality media. Optodisk is not one of them.
Hi there, It's a [bold]Virtual Drive[/bold], it's not physical. I don't have Daemon Tools here at work so I can't check, but I don't think there's any place to change it anyway !
Try upgrading the firmware. if you call iomagic and explain it to them, they might be able to help. i had the same problem and once the firmware was upgraded, it is working fine. Also, i use the clonedvd from slysoft.com to copy and it works well this i/o magic
Ok I've been workin alot to try and fix it and have come close....The file is an image file which I guess is what you are saying about the virtual drive thing.. I have upgraded the firmware and also upgraded my nero and tampered with it a little (taken the drive out and stuff). I was able to successfully burn a couple of files onto a dvd but sadly whenever I try to burn an image it fails. Could it be a problem with the software or maybe ever still with the drivers. I'm pretty stuck I guess I'll try callin I/O.. All help is appreciated-Thanks
You'll probably get very little support from I/O magic.Their web site doesn't have crap. Better off going to benq's main website. I also have this same I/O magic 16x drive that is a rebadged Benq-1620.Empa and BTC also makes the I/O Magic 16x internal drives.I also have the EMPA drive and it was a total piece of crap. The rebadged benq 1620s are excellent burners.Well over 1800+ burns at a 99% success rate on mine.I also have another 1620 and a 1640 in other pcs. First off,use the nero cleantool6 to completely rid all remnants of nero off your pc. Here's the link for that program: http://www.nero.com/us/Nero_6_Clean_Tool.html Re-download nero again, and make sure you leave out the IN-CD packet. Let us know if you have roxio on your pc. It also needs completely rid of using the roxizapper. The #1 burn log is some crappy media. I wouldn't even consider using store brand name media except for the Office Depot 8x and 16x.Very poor quality. The #2 burn log doesn't list the MID code of those sony plus media. [bold]What speed rate are they?[/bold] I really love the +8x sony and had more issues with the +4x speed rated sony in both formats. Your firmware update is just a hair off. I had very good results with my original B7-C9 firmare from my I/O drive.I updated it from B7-C9 to B7-W9 and still I have noticed no differences. I haven't found any media that my benqs won't recognize.Even cmag memosux/staple's brand moser bauer and some very cheap playo +8x r made by AML.These all burn ok,but playback issues are the result of the lower quality. Here's some info you may want to take note of. Using quality media, these benqs have better PI/PO error scans at the faster speed of 8x and 12. I no longer burn at 2.4x because that's where all my errors pop up.This causes too many read errors on the backups.Definitely bump up the burn speed to 4x. That drive will booktype the plus format to dvd-rom.Because of the overall compatability on stand alones,I no longer use the dash format. If you find any players that give you a no disc inserted error, this booktyping will help. Here's a program to booktype called Q-Suite 2.0.This link also has you latest firmware update. http://www.benq.us/ServiceAndSupport/Drivers/drivers.cfm?product=782>me Get that dvd-rom IDE ATA/Atapi controller back to DMA/UDMA or if available.Disable channel and reboot. Let us know what exactly you are trying to backup and how you are going about it for your process. Also let us know of the programs you are using. Lots of peeps here to help get you going. Maybe you got something messed up on your setup. Edit: One last thing. Look at the bottom-dye side of that sony disc that errored out. Look for discoloration-meaning if any actual burn took place. Also look for defects on that side, maybe scratches or contamination. I just ran into 6 Office Depot 16x ricohs that had a water spot inbetween the bottom acrylic layer and dye. You may even want to try using the media that is closer to the bottom of your spindle.
Ok, so, I do have both nero and roxio and will make sure to clear those. I know for a fact that when the burn does fail it does not burn at all, doesn't initiate. I will up the speed to 4x and try that. Also my firmware right now is D7W9 which I think is the most current. For my burning I only use nero. I'll make sure to try all that and then let you know what happens. Thank you
The firmware D7-W9 doesn't sound right. Your log stated B7-V9.I'm not familiar with that D7-W9 version. That may be the culprit. You should be able to find the most up to date firmware here: http://support.benq.com/front/BenqMain.asp?MenuHead=128&ShowType=... Just look for the benq 1620 and the drivers for it to find the zip file for the firmware update. Nero and roxio can clash. After you run the nero cleantool6,use the roxizapper to completely rid all remnants from your pc: http://www.microadvantage.net/downloads/zapper60.zip Then reload nero, omitting the INCD packet. The INCD packet is not needed and does cause issues. Since no burn has actually taken place, those blanks should still be good.Don't throw them away yet. What speed were those sony discs? 4x/8x/16x?
