Anyone have problems with smallville season one ?i burned the first season the backup copys play fine on my computer but wont play on my TV dvd player any ideas?
I have no help for you, I wish I could. However, I am having trouble actually burning a series. I only get the first episode and not the whole series. What program do you use or what could I be doing wrong. I used dvdx platinum to try and burn a series.
Im using nero, but thats all the help i can give i guess thats why they call this fourm the newbie fourm.
I use DVDshrink to back up my Smallville series. I am however having a little trouble backing up the latest seasons(splitting them, 2 episodes per disk w/ menus) but had no trouble with season1. DVDshrink is free but I also like it because it is easy to use. Give it a try.
I found this same problem whne backing up TV series DVD's. most recently with Season 3 of Evrbdy loves Rymnd. After trying several things, I now have success by burning to my HD with Recode (I like Recode for the superior speed and pic quality after compression) then burning the disk with DVD copy 4. It also worked fine with DVD shrink and DVD copy 4. I tried both Anydvd and DVD43 when trying to do a straight Recode copy, but had the same problem. I also had success re-copying the non-functioning copy onto a fresh blank! Anydvd reported that "DVD structure issues identified and fixed!" (unsure of exact phrasing) when I loaded the first copy into the drive, so I expect the same thing is happening when copied off the HD. Why it happens in the first place, I'm at a loss. The only thing I'm sure of is that it's a structure issue, all files are present. Don't know if it's in the decryption or in Nero. In hind site, I never did try turning off "burn at once" in Recode or burning from HD to disk with Recode after compressing to the HD, so you might want to try that on a RW to see if it works. Let us know, or if anyone else has any insight I'd be curious to hear it.
You also may need to make you DVD region free. I remembered that when I was making some of my first backups this happened to me also. Some would play in my computer but not on my DVD player. After I started making my DVD's region free I have not had a problem. I use ifoedit to make my DVD region free. I open up ifoedit then open my video ifo file for that movie then select region free (on bottom tab)and save now I am ready to burn my movie Since I have been doing this I have not had a problem, my movies play in both my computer and DVD player.
thanks for the help, im in the middle of backing up season 2 , as far as what speed ,im new at this so i guess what ever the program was set at.
I think the slower the speed the better. I burn at 4X which I think is a good speed to burn at( and only takes about 20min on my 800mhz Dell). I have had no problems with my Maxell media and you also do not want to burn all the way to the edge of your DVD. That can cause playback problems. I set mine in DVDshrink to no more than 4.3GB. Oh, BTY, do you split your Smallville Disks(2 episodes per Disk) or do you compress the whole disk? I like to split them so I get no compressed episodes.
I would look up DVDshrink guides. It is easy to work with if you are just getting started. Key: select still images for the episodes you don't want if you are trying to split a series disk. I started with DVDshrink and still use it today.
