Hey all, I have a modded cube with a viper fitted (running Cobra 1.2) but I’m having a huge amount of trouble getting backup discs to play. At the moment the only backup games that run are Super Monkey Ball 2 and Mario Tennis, anything else fails with a disc read error. Each game fails at different loading points but always the same point for each game. I’ve tried two types of media Datawrite (http://www.bigpockets.co.uk/product.php?lang=&submenu=DVD&menu=media&product_id=3260) & Ritek (http://www.bigpockets.co.uk/product.php?lang=&submenu=DVD&menu=media&product_id=2693), recorded at both 4x and 2x, and adjusted the pot trying numerous settings right down to 150.

Regardless of which combination of the above I try I keep getting the same failures, anyone got any other suggestions?

    Thanks for any suggestions.

I have a similar problem. If you check my post ( http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/258911 ), you'll see that I've followed the instructions given in this great forum.

The only difference with you was that i had the cobra 1.1 BIOS running. Somebody suggested I should upgrade so I did. Also, I actually raised my pot value to 205 and for a couple of days I had no problems.

Now, the DREs are back. According to the forums, the pot decreases automatically (use?) and you should "mantain it". Why don't you try the 205 value... it worked for me.

Aditionally, you should really try the 145 value. Someone else reports that if you have an older DVD drive, this is the "correct" value. Remember that every lens is different. Experiment and give us feedback on your results.

    Regards,
    Marco V.

Oh right that's promising, were your DREs happing at the same point regardless of your pot value?

I tried with some of my backups and the answer is yes and no. Particularly in X-Men Legends 2 the DREs ocurred in the same spot. I tried with other backups but the results were mixed: sometimes in the same spot in the middle of the game, other times I could not even start the backups.

I tried only 3 pot values 148 (my "original", buggy value), 220 (didn't work) and 205, which was apparently my "sweet" spot.

    Regards,
    Marco V.

Thought I’d drag this thread back out as I finally got round to testing my viper chip again. And once again I’ve had no luck, testing with four different games burnt to different media (including Ritek), I’ve tried the following POT values which cause all the games to fail at the same point (normally intros / start menus) 200,195,185,170,134,104.

Now can anyone confirm if there are cases where certain Gamecubes just can’t play backups regardless of POT settings or do you think this could still be down to the media/burning settings I’m using?

Also is there any way to test the burnt copies to check the quality of the disc before trying it in the Cube?

Thanks for any help, would really like to try and get this to work considering the amount of time I’m spent on it so far. Cheers.

I'm having same problem. I can't really find a good pot value. Seems I always get DRE's and I've tried a ton of different media. I don't know what to do at this point.
