Hmmmmm.... I'm having a hard time trying to understand your problem here, but it sounds like your computer may be infected by some kind of virus, trojan, adwares, spywares, etc. Just out of curiosity, can you play any original dvd using Windows Media player, WinDVD or Power DVD player at all? Where did you downloaded your Nero 7 from? I would not recommend anywhere else, but directly from Nero's website.

Here's what you need to do, get these programs below to run in "Safe Mode or Safe Boot" to wipe out any virus, trojan, adwares, spywares, etc., then go to www.nero.com and download it's Nero 7 Ultra and try to install again.

(To run your computer in "Safe Mode/Boot for Windows XP")

    1) click on START, RUN then type msconfig and hit OK
    2) click on BOOT.INI and put a [check mark] on \SAFEBOOT and click OK
    3) now your computer should restart automatically.
    4) now run the below programs/applications to wipe out any spywares, adwares, virus, trojans, etc.

i tried all that and it came up clean.i just can not view any type of video files as in mpg, mpeg, asf, avi etc. i even went and got all the codecs for wmplayer and uninstalled nero and nothing. so i answered my own question if it was nero or not.

Have you tried right clicking on your drive or image to see what process is supposed open your files and do an association for that file.
