    Hi,
I have been backing up CD's and DVD's for a few years now and have successfully burnt hundreds of each without any problems whatsoever. However a few weeks ago I purchased a brand new DELL desktop computer.

I installed Nero 6.0.0.6 which I bought a few years ago, I know there are newer versions but this one has never failed me. Anyways with this new computer I can burn DVD's no problem, I can copy from one to another using decrypter, I can burn CD's by adding the songs etc to the disc the only think I cannot do which is driving me nuts is copy CD to CD, when I select the copy feature in CD (DVD is fine) it tells me all the normal stuff eg destination and source drivers etc then I select burn and it starts the log which all of a sudden now says,

    Unknown burn phase
    Unkown CDR error
    -27 unknown error
    Unknown burn phase

I have no idea why it is doing this I have never had the problem before. As I said all other features of nero work so I am at a loss as to why it is doing this.

    Any suggestions would be appreciated.

    Cheers

Let's have the very last section from your Nero logs, to get your latest log, go here: C:\Program Files\Ahead\Nero\NeroHistory. Remember to "edit" out your Nero serial in prior to posting.

Nero is old, try to update to the latest of Nero 6, which is 6.6.0.18

I couldn't find anything about your burner, perhaps, try LG or Goldstar's website for any available manufacture firmware to update.

What kind of CD is this? Don't tell me that this is Sony, if it is, then you'll need AnyDVD to crack and bypass their encrypted copyrighted.

Don't copy on the fly, it is recommend to rip it into your hard drive first, then burn it from there.

Somehow your burner doesn't like the blank media. It looks like you're using Verbatim CD-R media, maybe an update on the firmware is needed. Out of curiosity, how fast were your trying to burn?

    HI,
Thanks for your assistance to date. I am trying to burn to whatever speed it automatically wants to, I think it automatically selects X48 but I havr tried dropping it to slower speeds but same result. I have tried a few different types of media including verbatim and benq neither work. As I said before I never had this problem ever in the past I was always able to back up cd's without any problems...

You mention old firmware? What is firmware? Is it possible to upgrade if so where so I need to go to do that? and lastly is it free or is there a cost involved??

    Cheers

You're welcome, glad I could help. "Firmware" is like your DVD burner's brain, it's telling your burner what's the best speeds to write and where/when to write. In addition, by updating new firmware that's available to your burner, it'll increase the burning performances and media compatibility. Meaning it'll read and write on high quality media if it can recognize the media and its media id code.
