    Hi;

    I have a small promotional video (3 minutes) I would like to distribute as widely as possible to many people. Ideally, it should play on out of the box PC's, Mac's, Linux machines, home DVD players, etc.

    What is the most universably playable format? DVD+R, DVD-R, VCD, ???

    VCD's would be cheaper & easier for me to make. I have a DVD+R burner; my friends have DVD-R, a VCD might be more universal, if most home DVD players play them. Mine does, but is that general?

    How do I create a VCD? I use a Win XP machine, and I have the original on a DVD, and uncompressed . It is not region coded or protected, since I had someone make it for me.

    Thanks for any advice,

    Paul

    Hi there,

    DVD-R is more compatible with older DVD player.

    *BUT* If you have a DVD Burner that can booktype your DVD+R to DVD-ROM, this is way better I am told.

    I use DVD-R because my burner doesn't support booktyping.

    VCD & SVCD would get burned on CD-R media.

    Have a look at tools like IMTOO DVD Ripper.

    I think this one can generate SVCD.

    My 2 cents...
