    PC P4 2.4G 768M Ram Win XP Pro SP2
    Driver: NEC 2510a Firmware 1.8
Apps: Nero 7 and DVD Santa
    Media: Verbatim DVD-R 8X Certified

Was having problems burning movies to dvd earlier in the week using fairly low grade media. I bought the media stated and updated firmware to 1.8.

When I now try to burn a dvd, the dvd freezes on the later chapters as before. 100% failure rate (5/5) using different movies. If I look at the dvd itself, it doesn't seem to have been burnt to the outer edge and thre seems to different darkness of rings at the edge of the burnt section. I have burnt dvds in the past and never seen anything like this.

Has my dvd drive developed a fault, or is there a method for diagnosing where the fault may lie?

Any help or suggestions would be appreceited.

Post your latest log file created with Nero, and we'll see whats in there.

Forgive my ignorance, but where would I find the log file?

Is this the firmware update you used 2.18

    http://support.necsam.com/optical/downloads//FlashFirmware/

Also did you check and make sure your burner was not an OEM drive with proprietary firmware

    http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?category=4&manufactor=23

Look for your log in the My Computer, Program Files, Nero, and the somwhere in the Core Files for Nero. You will see the Nero History file. Or do a search for Nero History on you comp. Nero 7 is different from Nero 6 in its placement of the file.

I did install the drive my self a couple of years ago - bought it online - I'm assuming that it it is not OEM.

According to the log, the current version of firmware on your burner is 2.16

I should be 2.18 like arniebear shows. Use his link and flash your drive.

Slow down the burn to 4x.

Hey speaking of firmware the current on my liteon is KSOA and i used DVDD to search for firmware updates and it took me to a site called the firmware page and that there is an update "KSOB" for my drive, but when i went to liteonit.com i could only find the KSOA update?? Anyone know anything about that other site and would it badd to use that version update??? My drive is Lite-On SOHW-1693S

I have the LiteOn 1693 drive flashed with KSOB and it works fine, more media compatabilty thats the major difference. I got it from that site you mentioned, but I have seen it on LiteOn's site as well.
You should be OK if you decide to update your firmware.

Nero 7 is still having bugs in it. Switch back to nero 6 ver 6.0.6.18 is still the best choice until Mr. Shrink has improvise on his "masterpiece nero 7".
