    OK, pardon all the newbie mistakes, but i did search the forums, and saw some similar problems to mine. Just got an old Memorex drive to put in.....have Nero 7, and cannot get a disc to burn. I am using Memorex branded DVD-R media....

    Ill post my log, maybe someone can help me? Thanks, and pardon the ignorance.

    I got the same illegal disc errors today when I tried burning a few movies. I originally thought it was the media since I have been burning discs for weeks now. I just started a new spindle of Sony media and it failed so I thought it was bad media. I saw someother posts with links to firmware upgrades. I upgraded my firmware and everything is working fine now. Process was pretty easy - just downloaded the zip file and ran the application. Media is working now. Do a search in the forums on illegal disc error and you will find the other posts. Almost all of the have alink to a rpc forum with the firware upgrades. Good luck

    I was also told from several members that Memorex media is the worst you can use. I was using Memorex last week and couldnt burn anything but when I switched to Sony it was fine.

    @mike10778 -

    - according to this your firmware's up to date - http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?download_id=1836

    - DMA needs to be ON, fix via this - http://home.comcast.net/~bbmayo/FAQ.htm

    - you need to free up more memory before ALL dvd work/burning

    - 4444MB is burning too close to outer edge of discs. If you use DVD Shrink, set target size to 4300MB in Shrink's preferences thus avoiding outer edge and not sacrificing much space

    - oh God, you're using some of the most awful, atrocious utter rubbish dvd media there is. get decent media, and glance at my signature for reasons not to use CMC media

    - follow the other suggestions, BUT also buy decent discs
