Basically the problem: Got some Imation DVD+R x8 discs. Trying to burn some AVI's as data discs so that I can view them on a computer at a later date, not a DVD player. The burn process says it is successful, but the disc cannot be read afterwards. I have read a few posts with similar problems on the forum, and in those cases the problem seemed to be bad media. I just wanted to check this is the case for me as well before I go out buying stuff I don't need. I also considered that the problem could be my burner being old, or that Nero Burning ROM is corrupting the discs. Here is my Nero log file: Windows XP 5.1 IA32 WinAspi: - ahead WinASPI: File 'C:\Program Files\Ahead\Nero\Wnaspi32.dll': Ver=2.0.1.74, size=164112 bytes, created 26/10/2004 16:35:34 Nero Version: 6.6.0.8 Recorder: <SAMSUNG DVD R/RW SH-W08A>Version: 1S30 - HA 1 TA 0 - 6.6.0.8 Adapter driver: <atapi> HA 1 Drive buffer : 2048kB Bus Type : default (0) -> ATAPI, detected: ATAPI CD-ROM: <SAMSUNG DVD R/RW SH-W08A>Version: 1S30 - HA 1 TA 0 - 6.6.0.8 Adapter driver: <atapi> HA 1 === Scsi-Device-Map === DiskPeripheral : HDS728080PLAT20 atapi Port 0 ID 0 DMA: On CdRomPeripheral : SAMSUNG DVD R/RW SH-W08A atapi Port 1 ID 0 DMA: On CdRomPeripheral : Generic STEALTH DVD st3wolf Port 2 ID 0 DMA: Off CdRomPeripheral : AXV CD/DVD-ROM 2.2a axsaki Port 3 ID 0 DMA: Off CdRomPeripheral : AXV CD/DVD-ROM 2.2a axsaki Port 3 ID 1 DMA: Off === CDRom-Device-Map === SAMSUNG DVD R/RW SH-W08A D: CDRom0 Generic STEALTH DVD E: CDRom1 AXV CD/DVD-ROM G: CDRom2 AXV CD/DVD-ROM F: CDRom3 ======================= AutoRun : 1 Excluded drive IDs: WriteBufferSize: 74448896 (0) Byte ShowDrvBufStat : 0 BUFE : 0 Physical memory : 511MB (523808kB) Free physical memory: 256MB (262716kB) Memory in use : 49 % Uncached PFiles: 0x0 Use Inquiry : 1 Global Bus Type: default (0) Check supported media : Disabled (0) 10.12.2005 ISO compilation 00:34:20 #1 Text 0 File Isodoc.cpp, Line 6172 Iso document burn settings ------------------------------------------ Determine maximum speed : FALSE Simulate : FALSE Write : TRUE Finalize CD : TRUE Multisession : FALSE Burning mode : DAO Mode : 1 ISO Level : 2 (Max. of 31 chars) Character set : ISO 9660 Joliet : TRUE Allow pathdepth more than 8 directories : TRUE Allow more than 255 characters in path : TRUE Write ISO9660 ;1 file extensions : TRUE 00:34:20 #2 Text 0 File Reader.cpp, Line 127 Reader running 00:34:20 #3 Text 0 File Writer.cpp, Line 122 Writer SAMSUNG DVD R/RW SH-W08A running 00:34:20 #4 ISO9660GEN -11 File geniso.cpp, Line 3293 First writeable address = 0 (0x00000000) 00:34:20 #5 Text 0 File Burncd.cpp, Line 3153 Turn on Disc-At-Once, using DVD media 00:34:20 #6 Text 0 File DlgWaitCD.cpp, Line 259 Last possible write address on media: 2295103 (510:01.28, 4482MB) Last address to be written: 2238175 (497:22.25, 4371MB) 00:34:20 #7 Text 0 File DlgWaitCD.cpp, Line 271 Write in overburning mode: NO (enabled: CD DVD) 00:34:20 #8 Text 0 File DlgWaitCD.cpp, Line 2316 Recorder: SAMSUNG DVD R/RW SH-W08A, Media type: DVD+R Disc Manufacturer ID: MBIPG101, Media Type ID: R04, Product revision number: 1 Disc Application Code: 0, Extended Information Indicators: 3 00:34:20 #9 Text 0 File DlgWaitCD.cpp, Line 433 >>> Protocol of DlgWaitCD activities: <<< ========================================= 00:34:20 #10 Text 0 File ThreadedTransferInterface.cpp, Line 830 Setup items (after recorder preparation) 0: TRM_DATA_MODE1 () 2 indices, index0 (150) not provided original disc pos #0 + 2238176 (2238176) = #2238176/497:22.26 relocatable, disc pos for caching/writing not required/ required, no patch infos -> TRM_DATA_MODE1, 2048, config 0, wanted index0 0 blocks, length 2238176 blocks [SAMSUNG DVD R/RW SH-W08A] -------------------------------------------------------------- 00:34:20 #11 Text 0 File ThreadedTransferInterface.cpp, Line 1043 Prepare recorder [SAMSUNG DVD R/RW SH-W08A] for write in CUE-sheet-DAO DAO infos: ========== MCN: "" TOCType: 0x00; Drak00n, Welcome to the forum. Can the burner burn anything you can read as it states the burn was successful 1.Nero Version: 6.6.0.8 You need to update Nero 6 as you are a few versions behind 2.=== Scsi-Device-Map === DiskPeripheral : HDS728080PLAT20 atapi Port 0 ID 0 DMA: On CdRomPeripheral : SAMSUNG DVD R/RW SH-W08A atapi Port 1 ID 0 DMA: On CdRomPeripheral : Generic STEALTH DVD st3wolf Port 2 ID 0 DMA: Off CdRomPeripheral : AXV CD/DVD-ROM 2.2a axsaki Port 3 ID 0 DMA: Off CdRomPeripheral : AXV CD/DVD-ROM 2.2a axsaki Port 3 ID 1 DMA: Off All of the above devices should be in DMA Mode. You need to make sure in device manager that DMA is enabled 3.Update the burner's firmware: http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?category=4&manufactor=28 4.MBIPG101] Manufacturer Name : [Moser Baer India Ltd.] That blank media is pretty low quality . Try using Verbatim or Taiyo Yuden, Maxell. The real mauf of the Imations is Moser Baer 5. File 'Drivers\InCDfs.SYS': Ver=4, 3, 0, 4, size=92928 bytes, created 07/09/2004 13:41:06 (InCD4 driver for win NT/2K/XP) File 'Drivers\InCDpass.SYS': Ver=4, 3, 0, 4, size=28672 bytes, created 07/09/2004 13:41:22 (InCD4 driver for win NT/2K/XP) Uninstall INCD as that gives problems
The writer burns CD's fine, its just DVDs I couldn't get to work. I tried to find the controls to switch the DMA on my virtual CD/DVD drives, but couldn't find the controls for it. These will not be involved in the burning process, so I just left them as they are. However, updating the firmware and burning software seems to have done the trick. The DVD's burn just fine now and can be accessed afterwards. Thanks very much for your help.
