(Sorry if this is in the wrong thread, there's too many) anyways i just bought a new badass Lite-On DVD±R/RW Dual Layer Drive (SOHW-1693S) and i'm wondering if i can backup a full dvd video disc using a blank DVD+R(DL) disc..and if it will play on my DVD Player (for my tv) that plays and burns DVD+R/RW?? because there's a nice little guide on here showing how to backup dvds and compressing them if they are dual layered, so they can fit onto a regular DVD±R OR do dvd players only play DVD±R's? and still have to compress??
@Chad1984, there are different answers here, some players will play +R format, some-R format and again some willaccept both. I think in the majority the -R format is the most acceptable. If your player will not accept the +R format then you can booktype your +R DVDs to DVD-ROM format. Same goes for DL, just means you can fit more on the disc. Stay away from Memorex.
Just a follow up......I dont think dvd +r plays on my system. what programs will allow me to make a dvd+r dl booktyped to dvd-rom? clonedvd2? nero? dvdshrink? i know you can do this with dvddecryptor, but dont know about the other programs per se. thanks
ooh ok anyways my dvd player i have for my tv is actually a recorder itself, and it records and plays the +R/+RW format.. so if i made a copy (i know i gotta remove the protection and that fun stuff first) of a dvd onto a dvd+r(dl) it should maybe play, thinking it is just another regular dvd movie? i'm just wondering cuz dual layer discs are more expensive and i don't really wanna waste a whole disc.. if no one really knows for sure..any opinions on if it would or not..cuz it records and read the +'s and of course reads the average dvd movie you would buy or rent
