Hi jasona, welcome to AD. I normally download my files that are in AVI format and save then to a folder on my HD. When it comes to burning these files I open my folder and then I use a prog NeroVisionExpress3

I go to make a DVD and then I drag files into NVE3 window

or you can add video files from your folder

and then click next and then burn. Sit back and wait for results. NVE3 is available at this link http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/video_tools/nerovision_express.cfm

just out of curiousity, what kind of dvd player do you have?
there are some dvd players on the market that will play .avi files directly......... no encoding needed to play, just download, use a burning proggy, burn, and watch !

@Gear79, to date all I have used is mainly NVE3, most of my files have been in AVI format and as I said all I do is drag them into NVE3, by doing it this way what format would NVE3 be converting it to or would it just be burning to DVD in AVI formatt?

you on the right track Gwendolin....
i am no noob to burning or changing formats....

but yes, i can burn an avi file straight to cd or dvd and it plays just fine on my dvd player.... thats why i asked what player jasona has !!

i just double click my file, i dont drag, too lazy i guess
but NVE3 (when used) converts the avi file to mpeg2 (fyi)

@gear79, yep I agree with you, I find NVE3 a very aesy prog to use, no need for converting etc and you can include the title of your movie on DVD. Because I use this prog most times I cannot understand why others find it necessary to use AVI to DVD and other progs to convert.

well, nero's encoder is not the best one on the market, thats why they use others !!

@gear79, when Nero transcodes my movies it takes around 90mins, so if I convert with another prog can I still use NVE3 and what prog would you recommend and would it speed things up

i wouldnt of put it in an iso format, but created the avi to an mpeg2 format. Then after you burnt it , your dvd player wouldnt of had a problem playing it.

If you have the original avi file, did you want to try the software links i supplied and encode your avi to mpeg2.

if you leave them as avi and try to burn it to disc it will be a data dvd, if you want to be able to play them in a standalone dvd player (excluding divx players) then you need top convert them to an mpeg2 compatible format rabbitboy then burn them to disc and youi will have a dvd that can be played in any dvd player

    handbags...at 10 paces...:)....hehehe

    @andmerr

not all disk's are readable in all dvd players,is probably what he meant to point out

its not about the conversion,as any avi converted to dvd format will play on any dvd player,as long as the disk is recognised by the player
