how to enable "check supported media"?

I was looking at a log from a recent successful Nero 6 Burning ROM burn. I've switched the type of media I'm using (Ridata -> Taiyo Yuden). Supposedly the new media is supported by and recommended for my Plextor burner. I was surprised to see:
    << Check supported media : Disabled (0) >>
    in the log.

I don't recall explicitly disabling a check of supported media. I've tried to find a way to turn this "check supported media" back on, but I can't find it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I am able to do a Nero Speed Check -> disk info, but I want Nero Burn to id the media so that it can maximize it's burning parameters for the media (or at least I understand it can do that).

Below you'll find the first part of my log file in case it can provide any configuration insight.

Thanks in advance for any help and sorry if I've been dense in not figuring this out myself.

    - not too bad at all, latest is 6.6.0.18 - http://www.nero.com/nero6/en/nero-up.php

    - firmware's up to date - http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?download_id=1530

    - that question mark is ok as the burner appears to be external to the pc

    - try to close down more programs prior to ALL dvd work/burning to free up more memory

    - the burner can't recognise that disc properly, here's an example (not the best example as it's CMC but it's an example) of what it should look like -
    - basically when your firmware's up to date you see a 3line paragraph such as in my example. your firmware IS up to date, just not new enough to recognise those particular discs you're trying to use

    - hmmm, a lucky escape!, or fluke that the burn seemed to have worked when it wasn't recognising the discs

Thank you for your review of my log file. I guess I didn't make my question clear.

Early on in the log file it says:
I was wondering if there was some Nero (or device driver) setting that I have inadvertantly set so that I have disabled checking for supported media.

The whole reason I switched from the Ridata media to the Taiyo Yuden media was to use a media that my Plextor would recognize. According to Plextor's supported media site I am using the media it supports. I realize that there is "fake" Taiyo Yuden media out there. I've gone with a supplier that assures me that this media is genuine Taiyo Yuden media. So the fact that the Plextor STILL isn't recognizing the media is REALLY frustrating me. What can I do?

    thanks.

So Nero CD-DVD Speed: Disc Info gets the following information without using the firmware to recognize the media?

yup, cus that and other programs like it are updated frequently so will be equipped to recogniswe media. your burner's fimeare is NOT equipped to do this with the current firmware; firmware is what 'teaches' your burner about media, burn speeds etc...

    @motobojo

That should be OK, mine says the same thing. I remember there's a settings inside Nero Burning or Nero Express and you can check on that part to check for support media, but it will shows "disable" when it burned and generated the log. Below is an example of mine -- this is my latest one, from Nero 7 Premium (7.0.1.4). I did an updated earlier, so far I tried to burn 4 times already and both Nero Burning Rom and Nero Express burns flawless as usual, so far so good.
