Soon after buying my second computer, which has a dvd burner, I discovered this web site and a great software burning program, dvddecrypter. Along with dvdshrink, I was able to burn essentially anything that I took an interest in. About a month ago, I started getting error messages when I used dvddecrypter. It doesn't seem to matter what brand of media I use, principally, Verbatim, Sony and TDK, I keep spitting out coasters. The sole exception to this depressing turn of events, is when I use rewritables. I have only used Memorex +RWs. My question is, what gives? Why is dvddecrypter no longer working like a champ for me. When dvddecrypter stopped working for me, I started getting the following error message form:

    (X) I/O Error

    Device [4:00] HPDVDWriter640cESO4CE;| (ATA)

    ScsiStatus OX02
    Interpretation: Check Condition

    CDB: 2A 00 03 86 EO 00 00 20 00
    Interpretation: Write (10) - Sectors: 231136-231167

    Sense Area: 7100030000000012000000000C0000000000000102030405
    Interpretation:Write Error

I installed a couple of different registry cleaners and I'm wondering if that could have caused my problems with dvddecrypter. In addition, I took my computer in, an HP Pavilion a1130n, to have it looked at and the tech said, there was nothing wrong with the burner, HP dvd writer 640c. In addition, the only other burning software I have is Sonic which came installed with the machine when I bought it and which I have never used for burning dvds. Assuming it is not a problem somewhere else, why did dvddecrypter which had worked fabulously no longer working. In other words, how did this wonderful little piece of software dvddecrypter beome corrupted and more importantly what Can I do to fix it. Any advice from the very knowledgable folks here at Afterdawn would be most appreciated.

Your Decrypter stopped working because it is no longer updated and connot handle the new type of encrytion methods being used on newer DVDs. Start using AnyDVD 21 day Trial at Slysoft.com

Encryption has nothing to do with his problem if he is having problems burning the DVD's. I still use DVD Decrypter for burning my ISO files.

Have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling DVD Decrypter.

Try to unistall and reinstall the DVD burrner on your computer.

Make sure you have the latest firmware installed on the DVD burrner drive.

It could very well be the programs you installed to clean your registery which caused a conflict somehow.

I have never been a fan of Sonic burning software myself. I have had a few drives that came with it but will never install it on the drive. I use Nero. Maybe try to unisnatll the Sonic software. Maybe it is conflicting with Decrypter somehow as well.

Sonic came bundled on my compaq and never was an issue and isn't in this case either.

According to Lightning UK, I/O errors are read errors from your drive. Basically the same as "disc fixated" in a nero log.

So my question is What kind of blank discs are you using to perform the burn? Did you switch brands or open a new pack?

Many companies nowadays farm out their production to other suppliers with some not having very good reputations for quality. Memorex is a perfect example. One pack may be from a top notch company and burn flawlessly while another may be from another with more than 50% failures.
You may also try updating your firmware since it is one version behind. Sometimes and outdated firmware can cause issues with recognition of the disc and cause write failures.
