i am trying to burn a dvd using dvd shrink to extract the files and nero to burn them. I used the instructions from this site but my burn only got half way through and then had errors. I have wasted two disks so was hoping someone could look at my error log (i saw someone else did that...) hope someone can help (or be bothered to read this, i just don't know what to do otherwise)

You need to EDIT and TAKE OUT your Nero serial key, before any hackers hacked your serial and use it for free.

I have no idea what kind of burner is this. Do you have the latest firmware by chance? If not, then check with your burner's manufacture to see if there's any available. It'll help to increase the burning performances and media compatibility.

445MB is ok, but your system is using too much memory. Try to release or free up more if you can in prior to burning.

You're writing too close to the edge, try to customize to 4360MB or at least 4400MB at the max.

Is this a genuine Yuden media? Flip up-side-down and tell me the inner id code number.

Somehow your burner is having a hard time reading/writing to the media. Try other DVD+Rs (genuine Taiyo Yuden, Verbatim and Maxell (Hitachi - made in japan) for your next dvd burning project. Remember to update the firmware if there is any available for your drive.

See above reply, something went wrong. Therefore, you're getting a write error.

Try to slow down to 4X (I highly recommend it -- it's the best and safest).

You're missing some "Existing drivers" here. It should be something similar like these below, taken from a log of mine:

    File 'Drivers\ASPI32.SYS': Ver=4.71 (0002), size=16877 bytes, created 7/16/2002 7:53:02 PM
    File 'Drivers\PXHELP20.SYS': Ver=2.03.18a, size=20576 bytes, created 10/8/2005 7:33:40 PM (Prassi/Veritas driver for win 2K)

inner id code number = IFPI BD03 (i hope that's what you meant)

also, once i have already ripped the files from the cd can i make them smaller again?

I have been trying to find firmware but i seem to be finding a few discussion boards from people with the same burner having the same problem... anyway i am not really sure where to look for it but i will try. SOrry i realise i'm pretty hopeless but i really appreciate your help.

Is this a 8X or 4X? I'm trying to recall them 4X hub id code. It's been too long since I use 4X -- (I primarily used 8X Yuden, but burned at 4X only). Once you flipped up-side-down and look at the inner hub (inside small inner ring), it should read something like GDXXXX, GGXXXX or TGXXXX (XXXX = numbers). And if you don't have those, then I'm afraid your media is NOT genuine Taiyo Yuden.

You mean DVD files? If so, then yes... but you'll need Nero Recode 2 or DVD Shrink to encode and compress the files.

What brand and model is your dvd burner?

I am guessing that is an acer oem in a notebook. If that is the case I think vrs3 is out. Check the acer site to see.

it's a SlimtypeDVDRW SOSW-833S that's all i know, it came with the Acer Aspire 3500. I went to this site to find an update however it said there was none (http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?download_id=2101). I will compress it again with shrink and try again at the slower speed...

oh sorry about that. umm... there is nothing there at all hey, other than the letters i said before and LAZER AZO in the centre clear part. So I spose it's no good then?? Good enough to have a few tests with though?

I updated, reset and am shrinking it now.

No problem... I guess you might have some fake Taiyo Yuden then. Like I said if it's genuine Yuden media, then when you flipped up-side-down and look at the inner hub ring, you'll see GDXXXX, GGXXXX or TGXXXX (XXXX = numbers). Yeah... try to have DVD Shrink "customize" to 4360MB or 4400MB at the max, and REMEMBER to burn at 4X only (it's the best and safest speeds for dvd burning).

Here's how to "customize" your dvd size using DVD Shrink.

Hope everything else works for you after updating the firmware, changing the size on DVD Shrink and burning at 4X speeds.

ahh my... the problem was much more simple than i thought. actually it was something pretty stupid that i should have thought of myself. i assume it was affecting the memory and stopping the burning. i was burning the files from my external hard drive. as soon as i transferred the files to my c drive and burnt again it worked fine... even when i forgot to change it to X4. thanks so much for all your help... at least nothing else can i wrong now I HAVE FIXED IT ALL :p

Even if you never stated that (the files you're trying to burn) is located at another hard drive from the begining this time, it's wise and helpful for others to know next time. Glad you figured it out yourself.

    Happy burning!!
