i am being humbled. on top of my two teenage kids, i am now made to feel like an idiot by my nero burener. i am getting "failed read error" on every disc i try to copy. percentage read is anywhere from 2%- 56%. i have checked the cd player and cdrw properties. system says the are working. i have tryed changing the read speeds. my brain hurts.

Are the cd's your backing up seriously scratched? Consider cleaning each disc with rubbing alcohol. EAC (Exact Audio Copy) is the more preferred route to go when backing up audio. Maybe give this highly recommended program a try?

    EAC: http://www.exactaudiocopy.de/
    EAC guide: http://www.ping.be/satcp/tutorials.htm
    EAC guide (Chris Myden):http://www.cd-rw.org/articles/archive/mydeneaclame.cfm

Be sure to download Lame 3.92 (MP3 encoder) at EAC website

well i just wanted to thank everyone for thier help. using your suggestions and some common sense, i finally came to the conclusion that my cd-rom was defective. replaced this weekend and i am happily burning away. running a nero burn, i saw your posting about nero audio plug-ins. would this raise the quality and ease of burning enough to bother downloading?? also need to look at mp3's. i am totally new so i will need some kind of site that explains a-z. thanks once again.
