I'm sure this is will be a very familiar post.

I have several movies on my hard drive(avi's). I want to put them onto dvd+r discs for watching on my stand alone players(and kids for the Xbox and playstation2). I am more than reasonably intelligent. I have no money(xmas time, 5 kids). I have been at this for 3 days...and I am well let's say... whipped. I have all of the popular freeware. I even have software I have paid for(Nero 6, Anydvd and Winavi)I have downloaded plugins. I have read every guide in every forum there is to be read. I still can not put these movies onto dvd+r.

Yes the players are compatible. Yes I have a DVD burner. I have a good PC(ASUS P4-2.8, 992 MB Ram).Yes I have what I need to do this, because I have done it straight from a purchased DVD.

Is there some big secret I need to be in a club to have explained to me?

    Here are my problems:

    Nero6;
When I use Recode 2 to try and make the dvd+r(DVD mode), the
option opens a pop up to add the files. The avi's are allowed but the -Next- button doesn't highlight. The
button fails to see where my files are.

When adding the avi to Make a data disc in CD mode the files are too large to be burned. This is the same in DVD mode when I try to add movie files with express.

Converting to Nero digital files only allows playback in my PC.

    Now, as for the freeware................:

    Avi2Dvd:
    ????????????????

    DVD Shrink:
    Got 5 files here
    1. VIDEO_TS, Nero showtime file, 6KB
    2. VIDEO_TS_01_0, Nero showtime file, 12KB
    3. VIDEO_TS_01_1, Nero showtime file, 84KB
    4. VIDEO_TS.bup, Bup file, 6KB
    5. VTS_01_0.bup, Bup file, 12KB

Tried burning something(nero)and got 1sec video and the 20th century fox trumpets (dump da da daaaaaaaaa.....)

    IMGburn and DVD Decrypter:
    Cant see files once again.

    WinAVIVideo:
Got some files back, but what is the procedure to burn them to a DVD+r for standalone playback. What specific files to burn in what program in what folder to produce a file which will FIT on a dvd+r?

Size of files always seems to be an issue with ALL of these programs.

I have had other files, sometime somewhere in the past 3 days, a couple of ISO files and some other folders with nothing in them.

I have destroyed half a tower of discs doing this and I'm hoping there is someone who can help people who dont't really know what they are doing but are pretty intelligent people.

I have had several explanations given to me to get this far so when you reply, please keep a few things in mind so that others who are new to this medium can understand and not have to decrypt responses themselves....

    1. Although we are pretty smart, dont assume we know what you are talking about(what to put in what etc...).
    2. as little medium lingo as possible.
    3. simple explanations please.
    4. Don't berate.

    and finally...
    5. Detail, detail, detail(the guides are good but don't explain the process from hard drive to ejecting the DVD),and why, why, why this is done.

Responders who awnser this, in full, as requested will be given a seat on the highest throne, whatever your faith happens to be and will go down in the internet hall of fame. People will overload this site and the whole world will cry your screenname. You will be a god among mortals.....

    The world awaits your response........

First, can you tell me how you got the files to your hard drive? Are they in individual Video_TS folders so that you know what movie is what?

Do you have DVDShrink (free from this site)?

I can only tell you how I do this, plus I havent used any of the
    programs you are using.

    1. I take the movie avi, and use a program called, dvix to dvd
to make the dvd files I need, yes takes a little time.

    2. then I use clonedvd2, to take the large dvd files to compress
where it will fit on a dvd.

    3. then clonedvd2, to burn the compressed file on dvd-- finished.

I'm not sure why i'm going to help you after a comment like this, but.....

Download a program called "Ulead DVD Movie Factory" it has a free trial period, 14 days I believe where it's fully fuctional. You can import any kind of video, AVI, MPG, VOB, etc.. and it will create a menu for you with sounds and other fancy stuff and convert everything and finnaly it will burn to a disc.

There's no multiple step to it, it's very easy to use and I've had nothing but success with it. Try that as it should hopefully solve your problem.
