all mode copying/burning, computer all fitted out

i am not only a newbie, i am a greenie, at 63 years of age, i would like to have someone ex plain to me in words 0f 3letters or less, (exaggeration)how to proceed, my computer has a hdd of 60gb, with 40 gb free, 512 mb ram, xp pro 2002, late model pioneer all mode burner, late model sony all mode player, shrink3.2, fab decrypter, nero full kit, but am at aloss as how to proceed from there, all the columns, and suggestions assume a knowledge i do not have, i can understand the end result, but how do you start, and get there, in simple language,fred
