    Hi,

    Might I suggest http://www.burstcopy.com/dma/xp/. Seems your burner may be in pio mode and needs to be in dma. If that doesn't work for you try right clicking the burner in my computer, choose properties, disable the burner, reboot and windows xp should pick it back up.

    Also a word of advice is just because your burner is 16x you should burn dvds at 4x and if you're pretty dandy you can burn at 8x max for the least chance of errors. Good luck and post back your results.

    taxxfree,

    Check and make sure your DVD drive is still in DMA mode and not in PIO mode. Do this to see.

    Click start/control panel/System icon/Hardware Tab/Device Manager/IDE ATA/ATAPI Controler

    Then right click on each IDE channel and click properties then click the Advanced setting Tab and there you should be able to change the DMA and PIO Mode settings. Make sure it is in DMA mode.

    If it is in PIO mode and won’t let you change it to DMA mode then delete your DVD drive and restart and windows should reset it to DMA mode.

    Go here for setting DMA:

    After that: never attempt to burn a disc at the advertised speed!!
    I always buy the good disk, Verbatim, TY, etc. at the higest rating and then burn at 1/2 the advertised speed. that is, 8x burn at 4x, 16x burn at 8x and so on...

    matt72, you beat me on the draw! Bang, bang...LOL

    matt72 and 2oldGeek Thanks It kinda worked. The burner is now in Ultra DMA 2 mode. I started burning with Sonic Record Now Max 7.3. It burned at max burn speed of media for the first 250 mb, then it fell to 1.3x and stayed there. Any thoughts.

    @taxxfree,

    As I said, IMO, Never burn a disk at the advertised rate……….. Always burn at ½ speed.

    That is why I don’t like Sonic, IntervideoCopyDisc or any program that you have no control of the burn speed. I only use Nero, DVDDecrypter and ImgBurn to burn with. That way, I am in control of the speed…

    Re-check your DMA settings and make a burn to quality discs using Decrtpter or something you can set the burn speed with.. Again, Don’t try to burn to fast. It’s not about speed, it’s about making quality discs and not just a bunch of coasters cause if they don’t work and you have to re-do them, how fast is that?
