Problem with CD/DVD Drives, perhaps related to ASPI

    Hello all,
I recently installed Nero and after the installti0on I ran the utility called Nero Info Tool to scan for the drives and software (ASPI) installed.
As far as Nero's ASPI, the status is OK. When I switch to view the status of the System API, Nero suggests that the System's ASPI is corrupted. So I searched the net for some ASPI drivers and found them. I installed them but now I have a new and more serious problem. I cannot use my drives anymore in any burning program (example: Nero, CloneCD...) If I wish to burn VIA nero, nero exits with a "Internal Error" message.
Clone CD, cannot read the CD's.
I gues I messed up something with the attempt to install ASPI on my WinXP (+SP1a).

Please advise, how can I fix this serious problem.

    Thank-you.

Do a system restore to reset your PC to time before the problem occured.

    Thank-you for the reply MaxBurn,
This is what Nero Info tool says about my ASPI files:
The ASPI files you linked me to in the upper link are the files I installed yesterday. 4.71a2 version.
I would like to attach an image of my info tool's diagnosis. How do I do this? Do I have to upload the picture to a site somewhere?

According to what I see I have version issues with "wowpost.exe" and "inaspi.dll" files as they are from 1999 while the remaining 2 are from 2002.

    Please explain.

    Thanks again!!

Another thing I notivced is that when I installed the ASPI files using the install.bat XP32, I saw that it did not try to install the files: "wowpost.exe" and "winaspi.dll". I cannot copy them manually since I have to unpack them or something...

    Any advice please?
    Thank-you.

There should be a readme file or some kind of txt file with the files when you unzip them that gives you info for how to use each app in it.

To clean up your aspi you will want to run KILLASPI (should be one of them)to get rid of all the system aspi you have installed to this point. Then reboot the computer and install again.

    Hi,
Are you talking about the "killaspi.bat" that comes with the ForceAspi zip file? After I do this which Aspi should I install?

    Yeah thats the one.
    I go with 4.71 myself.
Unless there is some reason you need to force 4.60 to install.

    OK.
I installed the Aspi layer as suggested.
NEro 7 however, still has a serious problem. Whenever I choose copy disc or dvd it simply pops up an error message "Internal Error" and crashes.

Don't know what else to do here :-(
    Any ideas?

let's have LAST section of your Nero log which lives in C:\Program Files\Nero\Nero 7\Core\NeroHistory, but DO NOT post your serial number which usually begins with '5C' or similar.

You can differentiate sections via this section divider "====== *** Nero-Burning Rom, History File *** ======"

I wish to sort something out...
Is it necessary for WinXP to have "wowpost.exe" and "winaspi.dll" files at all?
I read through some threads various opinions on the subject.
    What do you guys say?
Another thing, I have a CD-RW device I got for testing, it is a TEAC W552G model. Have you guys heard any recommendations (good/bad) about it?
First test with it on a protected CD and it already had issues with it.
    Any suggestions?
    Thank-you.

    Hi,

I'm pretty new at burning stuff. I got Nero 6 with the DVD-RW that I added to my computer. I mainly wanted to back up my documents. The same thing has hapened with the ASPI. I installed Nero and when I did Nero's system's tool it said that the System's ASPI was not installed. I went to Adapted aspi web site and and downloaded the drivers. Now Nero says The System's aspi drivers are corrupt. On the other hand My DEll Media Experience would not play DVDs so I thought that by downloading these aspi drivers the problem would be solved. No such luck. I also tried to do a DVD speed test with the Nero program and that did not work either.
The whole thing is really fustrating for me because I have no clue of what is wrong or what I am doing. DVDs play Ok with Windows Media Player and the Nero, so I know that the DVD-RW player is installed correctly. I have XP Home Pak 1 in a Dell dimension 2400, about a year and a half old. Any suggestions? Help is appreciated. Thanks
