First remove your sn# its the second line.

Your dma is off there is a guide all over this forum to show you how to turn it on. I think its in creaky or alkohol sig. Turn your dma on for the drive.

Your firmware for the recorder is old go here

    http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_result.php?kaj=1&isces

    To update it.

It dont like the media you are using. Update firmware will most likely take care of that.

it's early so i've probably repeated some of Whompus's comments..

    [bold]serial number removed[/bold]

    - i'm guessing here that your NEC is a 'retail' NEC drive, in which case the firmware's real old. 3.06 is here - http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?download_id=2005

    - DMA needs to be ON, fix via this - http://home.comcast.net/~bbmayo/FAQ.htm

    - firmware's out of date, ie the burner can't recognise that disc properly, here's an example (not the best example as it's CMC but it's an example) of what it should look like, ie when the firmware's up to date you see a 3line paragraph like this -
    - follow both my suggestions

yes you can make both a bootable CDR and DVDR of WinXP Pro. But you need the boot image to make it work. Dunno if the Windows XP Pro disc itself is bootable so it might not have the boot image on it. you'll hafta to go find a XP boot image to make your disc bootable.
