IS there a difference between the two? I mean everywhere I look it talks about ripping WAV files off cd but when I look at NERO it says the cd files are .cda. What is the correct answer? Does Nero convert them or something?

The audio data on an audio CD is stored in a diffent way than files on a data CD (e.g. data CDs contain an additional level of error correction). You can see the .cda files as "bookmarks" that can be used to start analog playback. Audio extraction like done in Nero (Recorder -> Save Track ...) is able to read the audio data digitally and save them as .wav file. The type of data (16bit stereo PCM 44.1kHz sampling rate) is the same, but the way it's stored on the disk is different.

BTW: You might want to use Exact Audio Copy for best (=error free) possible audio extraction. Available for free at this site's software section. Do a forum search for more information.
