ipod nano trouble!

OK i just got a 2GB ipod nano for christmas and i no how to use it and everything, i had 2GB worth or songs ready to put on and i had to delete 50 of the songs because it said it was too full. it has only used 1.82GB and says there is only 300KB left and i can't put any more on it, im so confused! if any one can help please let my know!
