I have just recently copied my first dvd...I have no idea whether i used the most effective programs or not...

    1. dvdfab decrypter for the decryption
    2. dvd shrink for compression
    3. imgburn for the burning

Can someone please tell me if this is the most efficient way or are there other programs that simplify this process..

Add'ly i noticed that on the copy, if i used a widescreen or pan and scan option on windvd the disk paused every few seconds...is this a setting problem and if so in what program...thanks and need help

dont double post man ,against fourm rule READ THEM!!!

if you want something really simply try clonedvd2 with AnyDVD this combo alone will do any movie out there and is very easy to use ,theres a 21 day free trial so download and try it,heres a link

remember to use good media (Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim) and burn at 4x

I'm gonna have to disagree w/ aabbccdd.

DVDFAB and Shirnk is free so why bother w/ something that'll cost you about 50 bucks. FAB can do anymovie AnyDVD can so why pay? Shrink can enable burn w/ imgburn so you shouldn't even consider it a third step.

But this is something I will admit. You get to keep your menus after re-author mode w/ clone so that's a definite plus. And it's a little faster.

My favorite backup software combo is: AnyDVD/DVDShrink/Nero
    Free alternative is: DVD43/DVDShrink/DVDDecrypter, ImgBurn

I cannot find the reasoning behind Ripping a disc before Shrinking it. Shrink is a Ripper/Shrinker/Decrypter. It was never updated to handle the new protections therefore, the need for a separate Decrypter came in to the picture. DVDDecrypter was a Ripper/Decrypter and everyone got used to ripping before Shrinking.. Now with the advent of DVD43 and AnyDVD to run in the background as an on-the-fly decrypter, there is no longer the need to Rip first before using Shrink….

I do Movie Only to preserve Full Quality.. If I have the need to do a Full Movie and save the extras, menus, etc. then I do a Double Layer and use DVDDecrypter,ImgBurn because it does better than Nero handling the layer break, and it’s Free…

    Just my humble opinion….

    @HIBISCUS

I like to use Shrink and Nero. Saves me some time. I use all the quality settings and set them at maximum, I don't care about the added time as much as the quality. I'll use DVDFAB if I have, the newer movies.

or use clonedvd2 with anydvd rip and burn in about 20 mintues, still lots faster and better than dvd shrink in the quality moods ,as the old saying goes you get what you pay for

Dvd shrink and nero can do the majority of backups, with the exception of some of the newer releases.Older/well conditioned dvds should be no problem. The new releases courtesy of sony,columbia/ that's where anydvd comes in. It help majority of dvd programs to rip those newer encryptions. No extra step!

I'll rip and compress with dvd shrink. Usually reauther and auto burn with nero. Very simple setup. If that combo doesn't work,I'll kick in anydvd in the background and she'll usually go. Anydvd is a must program.

Hibiscus, on most of those backups-You can eliminate the dvd fab decrypter step and rip with dvd shrink. You can autoburn with nero/dvd decrypter/copytodvd/and glueeater mentioned IMGburn. You'll have to double check those backup options for setting your burner to burn with one of those programs and make sure your burner is selected at the backup target. You've got to have those settings correct.

IMHO – I have been copying DVD’s since BS (that’s before Shrink) when you had to split a DVD-9 into 2 DVD-5’s and try to figure the best layer break. Therefore, I have been using Shrink for a long time and feel real comfortable with what I can do with it.
I like it better than CloneDVD2 or Recode2 and I own both of them..
I don’t like to Shrink or Compress Movies because it is impossible to compress 1’s and 0’s, there is no space between them. You are able to compress the air out of a marshmallow and put in a smaller space without loosing quality, but you cannot compress a bowling ball without loosing some of what it needs to be Round. The only way you can Shrink a movie is to remove some of the 1’s and 0’s thereby removing Quality..
You can use a re-builder, but then, what are you re-building? As they say “You can’t make a silk purse out of a sow’s ear.”
For my back-ups, I will only Shrink a Movie if it’s around 95%, no less. Otherwise I use a Verbatim +R DL and do it right.
But that is just me and like they say: That’s what makes horse racing… To each his own.. If it works for you, or it feels good, DO IT!
