What's everyone favorite combination of free software to rip, compress and burn? Which program controls the quality of the end product...
The transcoding program controls the quality of the video assuming that any compression is required in the first place. Many around here use just AnyDVD and DVD Shrink for ripping. Some use AnyDVD, DVD Decrypter, and DVD Shrink. Many use DVD Decrypter as their burning program either as a standalone or in combination with DVD Shrink. Others use Nero for burning. Some use CloneDVD and others. For DL media burning, we'd recommend using DVD Decrypter along with AnyDVD for ripping and burning. In short, the following three programs will serve nearly all your needs and only one, AnyDVD, is not free (has free trial though): AnyDVD available at http://www.slysoft.com DVD Shrink available at http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/dvd_rippers/dvd_shrink.cfm DVD Decrypter available at http://mrbass.org/dvdrip/ Guides can be found by clicking the Guides tab at the top of the page or at this site: http://home.comcast.net/~bbmayo/guides.htm
The free programs I use with great results are: Shrink DVD Decrypter DVDFab Decrypter (used to rip some of the newer releases)
For the free ones: DVDdecrypter DVDshrink DVDfabdecrypter imgburn For the purchased ones AnyDVD and CloneDVD2 [bold]I hate DVDCloner III[/bold] worthless trash.
