Some months ago I learned about the art of booktyping using DVD Decrypter. I used this as I found that booktyped disks appear to be more reliable and play on most DVD players. That was fine for making back ups of disks of around 4.3Gb, i.e. my friends copies etc. I now own a new Toshiba RD-XS24SB DVD Recorder. What I would like to know is, how do I copy say, a full movie disk, shrink it onto a 4.7Gb disk and more importantly booktype it? I know how to use DVD Shrink, but also want to booktype to DVD-ROM My owner manual states that my machine use -R/RW. I have my disks ready and waiting. Any advice/direction is greatly appreciated.
select nero or decrypter to burn with in shrink. both of these offer booktype rom settings. there are some guides in my sig check them out.
Thanx gamename, I've had a quick look at your guides (well, the links)but none mention booktyping. Do I need to check out each one, or choose; 'Copy entire DVD-9 movie to a single DVD-R using DVD Shrink' Does that one include the booktyping bit? Have you found booktyping to be more reliable? Thanx and sorry to be a pain!
angus999 hi if i read you right and what i see on a search for your recorder, it will only accept -r/rw disc's you need +r/rw to booktype. you cannot booktype -r/rw
Thanx gurnard, I think I understand that from my efforts earlier this year. My standalone DVD player was another Toshiba and that too stated that it would only play -R/RW discs but it still played booktyped +R disks!! That's the reason I want to try to 'shrink' a full movie, booktype it and then burn to a +R disk, if that makes sense!!!!
shrink doesnt come with a burn engine so u will need decrypter (free) or nero (not free). select one of these to burn with in shrink. if u r ripping from a disc the select open disc if u already have ripped it with decrypter the select open file, either way find the video and select it. after it does analysis u will be able to select back up. there will be options for u to choose from. eveyone has there own taste and preference here. most do deep analysis and set the target size to 4300mb or alittle smaller to keep from burning too close to the edge of the disk. u seem to already know how to set book type in decrypter so i will tell u how to set nero.open nero burning rom x off of new compilation and select recorder then select recorder. if nero supports book type on ur burner it will be under options. yes book typing is very friendly to my stand alone players, i would recomend it. @ gunard..good eyes, i didnt notice that.
Thanx gamename, my burner is busy at the moment so excuse me if I don't get straight back to you but will do in an hour or so. Cheers
take ur time. read through the guides. when i first came to ad i lurked for a month before joining and posting.
Right gamename, just for your info, I've just successfully copied an old (copy) -R DVD onto a +R DVD, booktyping it in Decrypter and burning in Nero! Although my user manual states that my Tosh wont play +R disks, the booktyping has obviously circumnavigated it? I just need to follow your instructions for shrinking/booktyping/burning now !!
I have sucessfully 'shrunk' one of my own full movie DVDs by using DVD Shrink. My DVD drive is compatible with booktyping. But when I try to burn with Nero, I can't seem to find the option to change booktype. Can anyone tell me where to find the option to change to a DVD-ROM? Thanks in advance
open nero burning rom, x off of new compilation and select recorder then select the recorder u want to use.if nero supports book type on ur burner it will be under options. note that nero does not support booktyping for all drives. check the manufacturers web site. here is a link for checking to see who made ur burner...http://www.videohelp.com/dvdwriters... and make sure ur firmwre is up to date here.... http://forum.rpc1.org/
Thanks gamename, I've been messing about too much today I think, installing and deleting, I've now lost my DVD drive. By that I mean Windows detects it but in device manager it has the old yellow exclamation mark against it. It does not show up in My Computer and I can't system restore. I think I did this earlier this year but can't remember how I sorted it. I fear I deleted something from the registry as AnyDVD told me to delete any reference to DVD43 due to poss conflict problems. Any ideas would be welcome. Thanks in advance
Got my DVD writer more or less sorted (still need a proper driver though)! Checked out Nero and it doesn't appear to support my writer but DVD Decrypter does Gamename, you mentioned earlier about Decrypter burning within Shrink. I can' t see that option. In my Shrink it has an option for enabling burning with Nero but not Decrypter. Any ideas? Thanks in advance
Hi. Sorry if this has already been answered. I just purchased some Taiyo -r dvds. I have been using the +r dvds for about a year. With Shrink it is allowing me to check the booktype dvd-rom box with these -r discs. Is this OK? Will this hurt anything? Should I uncheck the box when burning -r or leave it? I read above that you can't check it with -r..and in this case, that is not so. Thanks for any help! BTW- they play OK in my player.
angus, After you have hit backup in shrink, click on target device and if you can use dvd decrypter to automatically booktype dvd+r media to dvd-rom then select ISO image file and burn with dvd decrypter. If you need to preprogram dvd decrypter to booktype to dvd-rom prior to every burn then select ISO image and then select a target image file When dvd shrink is done open dvdd and select write ISO and locate the ISO file you just made. Don't forget to select booktype to dvd-rom if dvdd will not do so automatically for your drive. jkeeton, Checking the booktype dvd-rom will not effect dvd-r's in any way. Leave it checked and that way if you start useing dvd+r's they will be booktyped dvd-rom.
