when ever I boot up my computer, before windows XP starts up it detects a new cpu installed, this has been happening for awhile now and it is not a new cpu. It asks me to press F1 to go into BIOS and configure my own settings or press F2 to load default settings, If I press F1, I go into BIOS and save the current settings and exit, the computer restarts but it asks me the same thing about a new CPU being installed. I can get into windows with pressing F2 but I want to know how to make it stop aksing me when the computer boots up.
It sounds like your cmos battery needs to be replaced. That should fix it. If that dosent work try clearing you smos then rebooy the computer.
so if time & date is correct than is not the battery. what is the cpu supposed to be & what does it show in the bios.
everything is normal in BIOS and when i save the settings in BIOS it shows the same thing about a new CPU is installed, i can only press F2 to load windows which loads default settings
bios either buggered up or doesn't like your cpu. check board site for newer bios update than what is on yours now.
the thing is that i never installed a new CPU and it was the old one i had for aobut 1 year, and it just recently started to tell me that a new CPU was installed, will updating my BIOS help?
Try clearing your CMOS, by pulling out the battery for about a minute. Put it back in, and see if it boots right. If that doesn't work, check your motherboard manual to see where the pins/jumper are to clear the CMOS real time clock (RTC), then try that.
I tried to clear the CMOS by taking the battery out for a minute and putting it back in i also moved the jumpers for my CMOS and it still doesnt work
