hi, i have a hp laptop with a combo drive which plays dvds, cds, and burns cds as well.I have not been using the laptop for a while because i been away so i left it at home. Now anctious to try the new software out there, i installed neuro burning rom to burn some new cds. when i tried to burn a cd i recieved a shocking error report which said that no dvd burner device was found. i did a system check with nero and now writing drive was dected. i then went to the drive properties to see if the burning application was enabled but i was suprised to see that no windows appeared regarding that application. its like i didnt have a burner at all. am still able to watch dvds in all formats as well as playing cds but unable to burn cds. now, i have no clue whats going on. i think my drive may have malfunctioned somehow. could it be driver problems ? do i need to install a new driver? please offer some suggestion which may be of some assistance. by the way its a QSI DVD-ROM SDR 083 COMBO DRIVE
From what I've seen, the specs on that drive doesn't contain a dvd writer. It's both a cd rom and dvd rom. Specifications: Model: QSI SDR-083 Bezel Color: Black Interface: ATAP / E-IDE Read Speed: CD-ROM: 24x DVD-ROM: 8x Access Time: CD-ROM: 120 ms (typical) DVD-ROM: 120 ms (typical) Sustained Transfer Rate: CD-ROM: 3.6MB/sec Max DVD-ROM: 11.08MB/sec Max Dimensions: 128 x 12.7 x 129mm Weight: Aluminum: 195gm Metal: 235gm To burn dvds, you're going to have to get an external dvd-rw drive or buy an internal and place it in a usb external enclosure.
ok the drive was working fine . It didnt use to burn dvds , just cds. now, no burner drives are recognised . whats causing this problem. i have a external burner but i want to try and fix the internal one
Another term for combo drives is a regular cd-rw drive along with a dvd-rom drive. You can burn cds/play cds/play dvds-that is all.
