My 16X DVD/RW(dual layer light scribe) in my Compaq Presario SR 1650NX (Athlon 64 3500) burns very slow as compared to my old LG 4X drive. It takes up to 2 hrs to burn a movie to disc on top of the 10 minutes it takes to read from the 24X DVD ROM. I can only find one place where I could set the write speed and it was at "Fastest". Is it possible that the drive is writing at the slowest speed due to software issues? Should I reset the write speed to 16X?
Make sure your DVD/RW is in DMA mode. It could have fallen in PIO mode. Most times this is the reason for slow burrning and reading. In WIndows XP which i hope you have... Click Start/Control Panel/Choose [bold]SYSTEM[/bold] in the list (If you dont see System in the list you will have to switch to clasic view which is on the left hand side of the window) Once you do that a window will come up. Choose the [bold]HARDWARE[/bold] Tab then click on [bold]DEVICE MANAGER[/bold]. Now go to your [bold]IDE CONTROLLERS[/bold] and double click it to branch it out. Now find the IDE controller that your DVD/RW is on and make sure it is in DMA mode. If it is in PIO mode change it then clcik apply and exit out. If it wont let you change it or wont stay in DMA mode go back to the IDE contoller and delete it then restart your computer and windows should re-install it into DMA mode.
IBHomer what program are you using, the 10 mim rips ye have are very good..dma is for read speed..not for burning speed..if using nero burn speed can be set..if using dvdxcopy the burn speed can not be set.. i have to go out, some one else can nelp ye on the rest of ye problem..
Larry, Thanks so much for your advice. I did what you suggested and did another copy/burn and my burn time was reduced to just over 25 mins! Fantastic improvement!! Thanks again. Homer
