    Hello,

I have Sony DAV-SR2 system which has its own set of 5.1 speakers and subwoofer. The DVD player broke and I was thinking of purchasing receiver and standalone DVD player to replace the broken one.

The thing I noticed that I can use all existing speakers from DAV-SR2 system (connectable through speaker cords) except subwoofer.

I noticed that when you are using receiver it has a different output on the back of the receiver, so the input on subwoofer should be the same. This refers to as monaural audio cord - the black one.

The problem is that my subwoofer doesn't have monaural audio input.
How do I override this? It has plain speaker cords in.

I want to replace the DVD player from DAV-SR2 system with standalone receiver and DVD player.

I hope that I explained this correctly.

    Hello dalibor,
Yes explained very well - if you have a line-level subwoofer output from an A/V receiver, and your subwoofer is not self-powered and accepts only speakerwire inputs, then you need an amplifier.
A small amp, bridged to mono would be perfect, or maybe you could find a 1-channel amp designed for sub or centre channel use.
Actually a centre channel amp could get by with ~20 watts output, however a subwoofer could require maybe 10 times that...
Modern A/V receivers these days will always power the 5 channels, but not the .1 (the subwoofer) because of the power required; also because of the popularity of self-powered subwoofers.
Anyway, any old tired ratty amp or pooched receiver could be pressed into duty to power your sub in the meanwhile ;^)
    Regards

I've determine that my subwoofer has built-in audio and power in.

    Nothing I can do.

There's seems to be only solution to this.

Buy another standalone DVD Player and connect it to digital-in
on the existing system. Something I have now, but I have PS2 connected to digital-in on DAV-SR2.

I use PS2 to play scratched and damaged rental discs...
they work fine in PS2, but not in DAV-SR2...

Dalibor, I don't know what model Sub you have but I have a Sony 12 inch, on/off button on the lower front and volume controls on the top towards the rear.

Basically my sub works off the rear speakers as I have these wired into the sub.

Rear speaker wires from Reciever - Input of Sub then wires from output of sub and into the rear speakers...

Don't know if I am anywhere in the ballpark with this in regards to what you have...

I have Sony DAV-SR2 system with set of 5.1 speakers incl. subwoofer.

I decided that I will purchase a separate DVD Player and conected it thru Digital Output to Input on DAV-SR2.

if the money is there, i'd suggest getting a new subwoofer as well. from what i understand, you've basically got the home theater in a box? I had that once, and quickly dismissed it to upgrade. I think a new receiver, and a powered sub, you'd certainly notice a difference and probably enjoy it much more
