I'm sure this has been asked plenty of times in this forum, but I can't find my answer. I used Nero Recode 2 to convert my divx movie and burn to a dvd+r. I can play it in my playstation 2 but not in my APEX DVD player. It keeps saying bad disc. What do I do to make it play correctly????

You may need to booktype the burned +R disk as DVD-ROM to get the player to recognize it, unless the player specifically reads +R/+RW media. It could also be due to the media or the speed at which it is burned.

Download DVD Identifier from the site in my signature below and run it with the burned disk in the burner. See what it's media code and types (within the two sets of squared brackets) and post back here.

For quality, media should be burned at 4X or at least not more than 1/2 the rated speed.

I've tryed playing some DVD-R's on an APEX and some of the discs worked and some didn't. All discs were Sony's burnt a 4x or less. I've never had a problem with playback before, any dvd player I could find read them without any problems.

The strange part is that it would play one disc but not another, hit & miss.

Anyways just my two cents, I figure that the DVD player is crap, since it was $20 to buy =) I haven't checked the model # on videohelp.com yet

CMCMag is really bad media, amynmatt1. Try a different brand. You can't go wrong with Verbatim and it's usually on sale somewhere most of the time. Also Sony and Fuji media labeled as Made in Japan is excellent. Limit your burn speed to 4X for the time being.

What is the brand and model number of your burner? Also its firmware version? This info is also available from DVD Identifier as well as other programs. In DVD Identifier, what is the text displayed in the Drive Selection and Drive Capabilities box. The text with the square brackets [ ] is the firmware version.

get yourself a diamond vision dvd player at walmart for like $30.00. My aunt has 2 of them and they play my burnt movies with no problems the +r and -r formats.

    The DVDRW Drive is:

    Lite-On DVDRW SOHW-1673s [FW JSOC]

P.S. Thanx for all your help. I really appreciate it.

There's a newer firmware available JSOD:

If you want to enable + format media booktyping, download the Booktype Utility from the site below and run it. You'll want to change the booktype on all three +R formats, +R DL, +R, and +RW, to DVD-ROM. You'll need to scroll down the long page to get to the Booktype Utility.

It is important to try to get some better quality media and limit your burn speed to 4X or no faster than 1/2 the rated speed of the media. Hopefully, this will solve your problem.
