The SVCD (mpeg 2) is under 77 min.

The total file size is 1.3GB (well over 700MB) - my understanding was that when burning VCD/SVCD, the size is not relevant as long as it is under the 80 min allocated on the CD-R. Is this the case?

    The CD-R is Maxell 80 min, 700MB.

It doesnt even try to burn it, straight away saying:

"There is not enough space to burn this compilation onto this disc"

It then tells me the disc required to burn is a CD-RW. Why would it ask for a CD-RW and not be able to burn to a CD-R??? My understanding is that they are the same thing, except the RW is rewritable.

If I cannot burn this because the file size is too big, is it possible to burn to SVCD onto a DVD-R?

Thanks in advance for any assistance you can give me with this.

    Thanks for the response Rotary.

The link you pasted says "normally one SVCD disc contains 35-40 minutes of video" - if this is the case, then obviously my file would be too long. How do you know exactly how much you can get on one disc?

Are you suggesting I go the other way, convert and burn as a DVD?

For some additional info. The file I am attempting to burn to CD-R was originally a DivX that I converted to MPEG-2. It is such a large file because I wanted to maintain the best quality possible.

Sorry, you didnt add any link. I did not realise that the forum picks up certain words and links to a glossary.

You should be able to burn a svcd on a 700mb cd-r. I use Easy VCD to rip from dvd to xvcd. It'll make the files 777mb. Then I use DVD Rip N' Burn to burn that file to a 700mb CD-R. Works every time no hastle.

Anyone know any other good FREEWARE svcd burners?
