I am using DVD Shrink with Nero 6. During the burn process I get "burn failed". I tried to get the DMA turned back on by using both options that Alkohol suggested. When I open up Nero Info Tool and check configuration it still lists DMA off. Any idea why it won't turn back on? Your Nero is really old, current version right now is 6.6.0.18. So yo can see how old that is. I can't find your firmware. YOur DMA is off, try this: http://www.burstcopy.com/dma/xp/ if that doesn't work then try this: ((To enable DMA back ON by "uninstalling" it's driver “for Win XP users”)) A) on "DESKTOP" right click on "MY COMPUTER", left click on "PROPERTIES" B) left click on "HARDWARE", left click on "DEVICE MANAGER" C) left click on + sign of DVD/CD-ROM Drives D) double left click on your DVD burner or your dvd-rom drive E) left click on "DRIVER", left click on "UNINSTALL", you will see a "Warning: you are about to uninstall this device from your system", just click "OK", now "SHUTDOWN" or "restart" your computer F) once you restart your computer, Windows should automatically detect your DVD burner’s drive and re-install it for you. That's it...easy as smoking!! NOTE: do these steps only if the above process failed to bring DMA back on, or you can do exactly like the above steps, except this time you "uninstall" it from the “IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers” (A) left click on + sign of "IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers" (B) double left click on either Secondary or Primary IDE Channel (burner's driver are usually "Secondary Channel") (C) click on "DRIVER", "UNINSTALL", "OK" and then "shutdown" or "restart" your computer. That's it... easy as smoking!!! ***NOTE: you have to know where your "DVD Burner" or "DVD-ROM drive" is installed to what Channel). Usually it's the "Secondary IDE Channel" because your "C: drive or Hard Drive" would be the main aka Primary IDE Channel already. If you're not sure, then you need to check it with "Nero Toolkit" first before you "uninstall" any of them. Once you verify with Nero Toolkit, then you can continue with the above steps. I see you chose image recorder, did you mean to do this? That is a huge disc.
The burner I am using is Samsung TS-H552B firmware TS11 (as far as I know it's the newest). When I go into My Computer to IDE Channels I tried what the website said. Afterwards this is what it read: Primary IDE, device 0, transfer mode-DMA if available, current transfer mode-Ultra DMA mode 5. Device 1, transfer mode-DMA if available, current transfer mode-not applicable. Secondary IDE: device 0 is Ultra DMA 2, and device 1 is PIO mode. I'm just backing up a DVD so I probably didn't mean to choose image recorder. And I didn't think it was that big. I used Shrink and the movie was The Grinch. My burner is in the second slot in my computer. Is there something else I could have done or hooked up wrong?
Also don't burn at 16X... try it at 4X and see what happens. If you keep burning at 16X and generating transfer errors then Windows is going to force you to slow down by switching to PIO. You can delete the driver and then reboot. Windows should reinstall in the correct mode. Here is a guide that might help. Why don't you try to change the jumper setting of both of your drives? Configure your DVDRW as Master & your CDRW as Slave. Normally DVDRW can use DMA & CDRW use PIO
