What would make a PC shut down after log on and how would I go about fixing it. I'm posting here because I believe it is a virus.

    The System:

    Windows 2000

    Dell

    Symptoms:

Shuts down after log on. Safe Mode is ok though.

    Add/Remove programs is in-accessable.

    Thankz,
    Ced

its obvious that something in your start up is making it shutdown as its not doing it in safe mode..

try going into safe mode, start>run>msconfig>click the start up tab, check whats going on in your start up.

for now disable every single one, then well go through and see whats causing it.

oh, i didnt see your running 2000, i dont think it applies to 2000, sorry :(
