Site update - March 16th 2010

AfterDawn.com has been updated! In addition to renewing the layout of the site we have also speeded up things considerably. The new version has been tested on our Finnish site for several months, and during the testing we have managed to improve the new version even further.

You can now enjoy this new layout at English AfterDawn.com and English Discussion Forums as well! We have also introduced new sections to the site, and re-arranged things a bit.

Converting PAL to NTSC format???

#1 02 Jan 2006 @ 14:57
I am trying to backup a series of Australian DVD's...they are in PAL format. I need to burn them into our standard NTSC format to work in my player. Any suggestions? Thanks very much!

In NVE3 scroll down to More, click and then click Video Options, you will find where to make change there.

There's a very good guide in my sig by bbmayo on how to backup DVDs

just get DVD region free it takes the region codes off the dvd and it will allow it to work in your DVD player.(back as normal)
#7 02 Jan 2006 @ 21:32
Taking the region code off a DVD dosent neceserly mean it will let a PAL DVD play in a non-conpatible player.

Alot of the new DVD players are compatible with both PAL and NTSC but not all are. So if you try playing a PAL video on a non-compatible player it will play in black and white or not at all.

Region codes is just a way to try to keep people from playing a DVD in a diffrent country other then the 1 it was coded for. Has nothing to do with PAL or NTSC formates.

Yes you did give the correct advice.

I just wanted newbies or anyone else looking for advice on this subject to know that the advice that talonman gave wouldnt necisarly make the PAL DVD watchable on a non-compatible player.

It is a good idea to make a DVD region free.

That way you can play it on any DVD player without region restrictions.

but like I said it has nothing to do with PAL or NTSC.

Sorry if wrong advice, all I know is that I just did this yesterday for a guy from New Zealand on the movies called Monty Pythons and Asterix and it worked on 4 different DVD players, (JVC, Panasonic, Apex, and a sony)

if it worked for me it should work for others, but I guess not.

If the machine is PAL and NTSC comatible then it will work. Yes if you have a DVD and it is in a diffrent region that your player is then you will need to take off the region code to make it work.

But I ran across a thread in another forum that was simuler. They tried playing a PAL dvd on a player and it wouldnt work. But it would work on a newer player. After they converted it to NTSC it worked on the old player that didnt work before. Reason being the old player wasnt compatible with PAL DVD's.

So in all casses taking off the region code might not necisarly work.

i see you're now asking a similar question here - http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/281309

no multiposting and stop raising new threads for similar problems, spreading the problem across multipls threads/forums is confusing for us never mind for you.

this isn't the first time you've been requested to cease this so pls read the Forum Rules in my sig
