I had just purchased a toshiba hi-end dvd-rw but after about 6 successful burns 4 cd's and 1 movie & 1 data it stopped working so i exchanged it for a sony hi-end model(both came with the Nero 6). I'm getting the same errors, so I figure it's not the device. What type of sofware issues would cause the burner not to burn? I have since updated my firmware, wnaspi.dll and Nero software. Still no luck burning except 1 cd to cd copy of an already burned cd. I also thought it may be the quality of the audio files not being recored at a high enough bit rate, so I tried to cody a store bought music cd and still no luck. Can anyone help?

Firstly your DMA is off Your nero is a few versions behind, its now 6.6.0.18 You are trying to burn WAY TOO FAST, most people like to burn at around 4x.
How can I be burning to fast if the cd's are 52x rated and I burn 32x to 48x which is still under the maz rating of the disc or the dvd burner? Also I went to the Nero web-site and updated for the version (6.6.0.14) that came with my sony purchase. The site said that I now had the most up to date dll's, drivers and utilities for what I purchased. One more thing, burn update: I have successfully burned a store bought music cd as of 5 min ago. I will have to try data and music files off my hard drive to tell if all the updates are working properly. If you have any suggestions please list. I will however slow the speed down though I am not sure why 4x is what people are writing at these days when the burners are supposed to be able to go faster as i was informed by the store tech? What is DMA? I went to the device manager and went to advanced tab. I hit the option DMA if available then restarted my computer. This was before the successful burn of the store bought music cd. Could that be a reason (not the sole reason) plus the updates that the burn worked?
My car can do speeds in excess of 100mph, but thats not the speed I drive at, its more economical to do 60 and a lot safer. You will find that burning at a slower speed is a tried and true method adopted by most AD MEMBERS. Your DMA does play a part in successful burns. The latest version of Nero IS 6.6.0.18 Burning a music CD is much LESS complicated than burning a DVD
just passing by... - not too bad, 6.6.0.18 is latest 6.x version - 1.0D is here, dated 29/11/05 - http://sony.storagesupport.com/dvdrw/firmware.htm#810a - DMA needs to be ON, fix via this - http://home.comcast.net/~bbmayo/FAQ.htm - make sure to close down more programs prior to ALL dvd work/burning to free up more memory - if other suggestions don't work, try different discs - if other suggestions don't work, try different discs - for audio cd's i do 16x max and for data cd's i do 24x max - InCD is Nero's horrid 'packet writing software', uninstall Nero then uninstall completely via Nero's Clean Tools, then reinstall Nero WITHOUT installing InCD Also, CDRALW2K.SYS is part of Roxio. try uninstalling Roxio (doesn't always play well with Nero), then you might need to fully remove using Roxio Zapper - http://www.microadvantage.net/utilities
Thanks I'll try it, so far I've burned cd to cd and music files from the hard drive ok since the 6.6.0.18 update. As for the disconnection when nero starts I was told to maybe uncheck the automatic update box and reinstall. I'll uncheck before I uninstall everything again to see if it has an effect on the temporary disconnection problem I have experienced when starting Nero smartstart.
