    hello
first time posting, I've a problem with nero 7 ultra. when I try to burn an iso image on a cd (rw or r) I am getting error messages about not able to perform fixation and the burn fails, however it will continue to run and burn the leadout and as far as I can tell the disk is not a coaster(it does this also with DVD's)Nero support was as useful as another hole in the head in fixing this problem. They said to update to 7.0.1.4...it didn't help. don't believe that this is a hardware issue, I've installed this software on two other pc's to see if it was a hardware problem but I still got the same errors. when I had nero 7.0.0.0 I didn't have this problem. the following is the error log I have compared it to a good burn using v7.0.0.0 and to my untrained eye the only differents other than the burner used were the incd sys files,

I did replace the incd*.sys files with the ones generated by v7.0.0.0 but it appears that this may not be the problem. if any one has any ideas please post. I don't want be stuck using v7.0.0.0 forever

    hi and welcome..

    - firmware's up to date - http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?download_id=1699 albeit dated Sep 2004!!

    - a-ha, the firmware's not recognising whatever blank discs you're using. This 5line paragraph is an example of what you should be seeing when firmware's up to date -
    - see previous comment, try different discs

    - for data cd's i do 24x max and for audio cd's i do 16x max

    - InCD is Nero's horrid 'packet writing software', uninstall Nero then uninstall completely via Nero's Clean Tools, then reinstall Nero WITHOUT installing InCD

    thanks
tried your suggestions..updated the firmware, tried 6 diffent cd-rw brands, uninstalled nero 7,used the nero clean tool and the incd clean tool and reinstalled without the incd, am still getting the burn error messages, but I am still getting what appears to be good burns when I run the disks.as stated earlier, I have the first ver. of nero 7 ultra 7.0.0.0 which burns iso images will no problem. I have used this new ver7.0.1.4 with a new LG dl burner and an older HP cd burner with the same error messages. When I use v7.0.0.0 I get a good burn each time.any other thoughts? this is my lastest log..I want to add that my system is XP pro w/sp2 and not win 2000. also why are my devices showing as scsi and why is ATAPI not being detected? could this be causing my problems?

    - from that logfile entry it's the same problem re the firmware not recognising whatever blank discs you're using. The discs you're using must be newer than the firmware (dated 2004) knows what to do with. Firmware is what teaches your burner about media/burn speeds and if it can't recognise discs it's not gonna be able to burn properly

I give up for now...uninstalled 7.0.1.4 and reinstalled 6.6. everything burns fine now. the media is recongized by my burner.I still think this is a software bug,the firmware updates had no effort on my pcs,I updated 3 different burners with no luck of solving the problems. I tried several different brands of media and still had errors.I remember when 6 first came out it was very buggy but after a few updates it was a good product. I guess I'll wait to they iron all the bugs out.
thanks for taking the time to help me.

Nero 7 is up to 7.0.1.4b. Not sure what the "b" version did, but i see lots of ppl posting with burn problems in Nero 7 that go away when going back to version 6. That tells me something in version 7 is buggy for some ppl. I went ahead and updated to nero 7 and haven't had any problems burning so far. Go with the latest Nero version if you are having problems. And if you upgrade to version 7, keep the serial numbers to your old version 6. You might need to go back to it if you have burn problems. I really feel Nero is using us as Beta Testers for version 7. Each update fixes something they should have worked out before they released the product to the masses.
