Every booktyping guide I've read assumes I have an ISO image to burn. How do I booktype if I rip and burn the actual files? In case it helps anyone that answers...here's my routine:

    Rip files with Decrypter
    Menushrink
Burn w/ Shrink (I guess technically it's nero but I use the Shrink interface)
    Done.

When you run the file through DVD Shrink you should be creating an ISO file. And why not use DVD Decrypter or Imgburn for the burn? Both booktype easily.

After I run it through Shrink I don't get an image file...I get a bunch of files. (Nero Showtime and BUPs??)

I've been following Scuba Pete's guide...so I don't even know how to just burn with Decrypter. I was under the impression that Decrypter is for decoding the files and Shrink was for burning.

DVD Shrink doesn't have a burn engine, it relies of either Nero or DVD Decrypter or Imgburn to burn the ISO image that it creates. After you have edited out all of the stuff you don't want such as the menus, special features, audio tracks and subtitles etc., and hit the backup button a new window appears...the top option is your target, Nero, DVD Decrypter or just an ISO file. You have DVD Shrink set up to burn with Nero. In the drop down box select one of the ISO image options...either just ISO image file or ISO image file and burn with DVD Decrypter.

So an ISO image file is the only way to change the booktype?

I guess the answer to your question is yes, being that what you are burning is an ISO image. Nero is capable of booktyping, but as I am at work and don't have access to the app, I can't walk you through the process of setting it up to booktype.

You can booktype dvd+r media to dvd-rom when burning iso's or video-ts files or even data files if your drive is capable of bitsetting. Not all dvdrw drives are capable and you can only booktype dvd+r format to dvd-rom. Not dvd-r. What make and model drive do you have?

I only use DVD+R media and I'm pretty sure my burner supports booktyping.

    Sony DVDRW DW-Q28A

So it IS possible to booktype w/o an ISO image?

Yes, I burn about 95% video_ts files and booktype them all dvd-rom.

Your sony is a rebadged lite-on SOHW-1693S. I recommend useing the lite-on booktype utility to automatically booktype your dvd+r's to dvd-rom. Here's a link to the utility and there is also a link to a usage guide on the page. http://club.cdfreaks.com/showthread.php?t=83441
