i have probly have a similar setup - at the back of your tv out there will either be a s-video or composite female socket and a dvi socket

the s-video (normally black) or composite (yellow) goes into yer tv, i use a red & white composite lead into 1 audio jack that goes into my speaker output at the back of the pc

once youve done that, when you reboot you may see the boot screen on the tv. if not you need to go into display properties and advanced and set up the displays - this is where "rtfm" comes in ;)

i use the tv to watch films ive got on the pc - i dont bother with using it as a "monitor" to work on as iuts never going to be the same quality as a pc monitor - but its perfect for watching films obvioulsy
