I have heard enough of the MPC, WMP or (insert player here) not working. There is a solution and if you got enough time and patience to do everything listed you may get ratDVDs to play. This solution has been proven by a few people on this forum so please try it if ratDVDs don't work for you. Hopefully this thread will become a sticky and in future builds of ratDVD this problem won't be a problem anymore.

#1 Un-install any and all codec packs on your system including ratDVD and reboot. This is to remove any and all current codec registery entries.
#2 Download and install K-Lite Mega Codec Pack. This codec pack has almost every codec available so when you install it make sure it installs XviD which will set XviD as the default codec to handle XviD content. (I know XEB and XviD aren't releated but just do it.)
#3 Download the Satsuki codec pack and install only the ratDVD decoders by using the advanced install menu.

After all this now try and play a ratDVD file, if it works great if not then please post your problem on this forum.

    Hi,

Just saw this after I'd posted a new thread and thought it might resolve my sound issue.

This is probably a stupid question but how do you find and un-install all codec registry entries?

    Thanks

When you un-install your codecs they remove their registry entries after the un-install program ends or after you reboot (that's why i said you should reboot after un-installing).

Sorry about this, I understand that I need to reboot but I don't know how to find the codec packs to remove them in the first place.

There are 2 ways. 1) You uninstall them via the start>programs>(Codec pack)>uninstall method or 2) you uninstall them via start>control panel>add or remove programs method. If you don't understand on how to uninstall software you may need more knowledge about computers.

    Thanks.

I do know how to un-install programs via both suggested methods.

I guess we must have got our ‘wires’ crossed, as I don’t have any ‘codec packs’ install. My assumption was I needed to remove any ‘Codec’ installed by DivX etc.

I guess I just need to install the packs as you suggested.

    Sorry about the confusion.

Unfortunately it didn't solve my problem with ratdvd. Some DVDs work, others don't. All DVD are on HD without copy protection - they are not modified or something else.

After encoding: no video, no audio :( it is frustrating!

    What else can I do?

As far as you problem goes make sure you have everything required by ratDVD: Direct X 9, DVD player software (If you don't have these I don't think ratDVD will work.) If some work and some don't then you have a half-way solution. I suggest checking some of the settings you used on the ratDVDs that work also mess around with the settings prog that comes with ratDVD cause there is something that causes problems.

    Hi :)

thanks for your reply. My computer fulfills the requirements. Which settings do you mean? I disabled high quality scaling for testing - the problem remains.

Encoding a part of the DVD is no problem - works fine.
Encoding the whole DVD leads to no audio and no video.

I have no idea why :( please help!

    Howdy :)

I reinstalled Windows and installed just ratDVD so that the possibility of a codec conflict is low. Now I have more information on that problem:

Encoding the movie works fine - with sound and video
Encoding the menu leads to no sound and no video

Therefore I guess that ratDVD is incompatible with some menues.

Hopefully, there will be an update because ratDVD's compatibility is very important for its success!
