I just ran across this interesting tidbit at the Inquirer site:

"* MEANWHILE the INQUIRER has learnt that the Pentium III serial number on machines is used by most DVD burners to actually put the serial number onto the media that is being burnt. µ"

No info as to whether this applies to AMD or P4's.
