i am not getting any coverage even when my sim is in the phone. i did the basic by selecting manual search but the phone is still not picking up the network. i'm not sure whether it is an hardware problem or a software problem. i hope u understand what i'm saying.

Ok, got that, where are you in the world? where did you get the fone from? Has the fone worked at all, in your possession?

it is against forum rules to discuss anything off forum, this is to educate others with our conversation, i'm sure you will understand.

OK if you are trying to connect to digicel, have you tried the sim in another fone? this will make sure the sim is registered to work OK. If not do so. If it works in another fone we have eliminated that the problem is the fone and not the sim. If all is OKJ with sim then the fone is faulty.

r u familiar with the term "to chip a phone". if ur not it means to physically disassemble the phone and change the settings inside it so that the phone can work with any network in say for example, jamaica.
in jamaica most phones r chiped cuz when we put our own chip inside it dosen't work. so we have to bring it to a phone technician who chips the phone for a cost. but i know for sure that the phone is not faulty. what i'm saying is that i just want to know how they chip the phone so i can save the money that i'm gonna use to chip it to do something else. i was wondering if u know how to do this.
and this is changing the current network from t-mobile so that it can work with any network in jamaica. and if u didn't know, it can be done.

I have a question, why would you want to change any part of the inside of a tri band fone, you only need to unlock it to accept any sim, then put that sim in to connect to the network. I have heard of removing the epromm chip inside a payg fone to get access free on the old analog network, but not wot you are suggesting, seems pointles with a digital networks tri band fone such as 6101. Seems I can't help you anymore, sorry.

i understand what ur saying but how do u explain when i unlock the phone and put the sim in it still doesn't work. but still the phone is working i can play games take pictures, video, and other stuff but i cant get any network. explain that to me. and please note that i have tried every means. and still no network. i'm sure the chip that i have is working cuz it in another phone. so y is it that i cant recieve any network. and the phone is not faulty.

Ok if the sim works in another fone, its OK, but it doesn't work in the 6101, that means the 6101 is at fault, right? when the fone logs onto a network it sends all sorts of info about the fone, including the imei number, if that info is at all corrupt or not working correctly, then the network will not allow you to logon. Voi La, no signal. take the fone to the person that changed the chip or epromm if you mean that, and tell him to get it working for you, if you paid him/her for this service its down to them to prove to you they have done whatever correctly.

    END of.
