Ok i am trying to transfer roms for my emulators to my modded xbxo with a evox dash, and i was wondering if there was a application i could use to do that without using ftp. I followed the instructions on how to ftp but Flashfxp kept saying that there was "no route to host". Can som1 plz help me out. Also i am using a direct connection with a cable. I am using a cable similar to this one: http://www.accessoryexperts.com/Video-Gaming/Intec-G8237.asp. It is made for the xbox. It can hook up 2 xbox's or hook up an xbox to a pc. Also it says it is made for use with xbox. Can someone plz tell if that is a crossover cable or not, and tell me what I am doing wrong.

well for one your link doesn't work. but this is a crossover cable, used if you connect the PC to the Xbox.
In order to FTP things you have to set up both the PC connection and Xbox network settings correctly
here are a lot of tutorials on te subject

you can use a crossover cable or just a ethernet cord hook it up to your xbox go on your dash go to setting/network manager and make sure static ip is off then check your current ip go to flash fxp click the lightning bolt type in your ip on server url for user name type xbox(lowecase and password xbox(lowercase) click connect then you can transfer to your xbox.
if that tutorial is not good go to this site it should help you

if you want to transfer your roms to your xbox [bold]without[/bold] using ftp. You can build a bootable dvd with avalaunch on it....and then on this dvd you can put a folder with your roms on it.

This way you just boot the disk, and then use the file manager to navigate to your rom folder....then just copy the files to the proper folder on your xbox.

Step 1) Buy a cheap router for like $10 and make 2 regular ethernet cables. cable crimper package is like $5. connect the cables from the xbox to the router and from the pc to the router. turn on the router then your pc and xbox.
step 2) set the router to assign ip automatically. most likely the default setting.
step 3) load up your xbox, get your ip address thru the options menu (varies depending on what dash you're using.)
step 4) put that ip in your ftp program w/ xbox/xbox for the user/password and have at it. believe me, you will be glad you spent the 15 bucks.
    but...
If you really want to do it without the router heres how:
get into your xbox network setting however you need to. if youre using evox dash, go to util->network settings and set it to enter ip manually or something similar. then pick an ip address for your xbox. i recommend 192.168.0.103
now get on your pc. double check that your pc ip is not the same as the xbox ip. do this by start->run type "cmd" to get the command prompt. type "ipconfig" it will give you some info. look for your ip address. if its anything other than what you assigned your xbox youre fine. now just load up flashfxp, enter the xbox ip into the box, use xbox/xbox as the user/password and you should be all set.

Im thinking that the problem you are having is that your pc cann't connect to your xbox because it's set to get an ip from the server/router, and after seeing there is no server/router to get it from, it just does not get one. the issue you described of your pc saying that the cable is disconected is a little troubling though.

although unlikely, you may have bad hardware.
to test your hardware, buy the cheapest thing first. make or buy a corssover cable, or borrow one from a friend that you know works. if you're still getting that error, try the next thing. borrow a friends xbox, or take your xbox to a friends house to see if it;s your pc network card or the xbox's network connection that is bad. If they all check out ok, then theres no hardware problem.

And as far as burning games w/o ftp, I don't know of any way around that. FTP is the only way I know of to do it.

Again, I REALLY recomend buying a cheap router and some cables. It will make your life so much easier.

one last tip: if all else fails, double check that you're putting the info into the correct fields. I know we all get excited when we're gaming and sometimes get ahead of ourselves. just make sure youre putting the ip in the ip box and so forth.

hope this helps, sorry for any spelling or grammar errors. in a bit of a hurry and no time to re-read it. If you have any other questions email me or respond back to this post. I'll check back.
