I got a black ipod 30gb Video for Christmas. After about a week of use the battery felt low to me. One day I charged it until it said full. Than I used it that same day for about 3 hours of just listening to music with only less than 2 minutes of video. Than I turned it on early next morning it was already in the red zone. Is this normal?

I tried the battery again and got about less than 5 hours with 20 minutes of video included. If this is all the battery I will get out of 14 than I will exchange this for a Nano

Um....I think they are being quite tricky about the "14 hours of music playback." That same thing has been happening to a lot of people (there was a thread on this issue already, check it out ;)).
In my particular case, with the exact same iPod, a fully charged battery lasts me about 4 1/2-5 hours with backlight to 5 seconds and NO videos.
Yep yep, hope this helped....a bit.

That's hard to predict. I dont know what their current policy on returning iPods is. A good place to check (so you dont have to go all the way to the nearest Apple Store) is using apple.com's store locator (I'm pretty sure I saw the option somewhere) and then calling them and asking them. A Nano might really be a better buy for your needs.
I know there is a thread for questions *just* on Nanos, so you might want to ask those folks how long their battery lasts.
Hope your iPod experience gets----better ;)

For all that you can do with the Video iPod and not the Nano it's so worth not turning it back in!!

I'll find out what the Nano's average battery life is and compare it to the Video. If it's only an hour or two more i will probably keep the video. Thanx guys 4 ur help!!

Thanx Lethal, but I meant the average battery life from a person who actually has the Nano and uses it every day. The apple battery lifes on the website are not even close to the actual battery. Sorry I didn't explain it clearly

You will never find out the answers to that one. Everyone uses it differently ie. Different volume / backlight settings. The apple guidelines are about as close as you're gonna get ;)

Well I would use 2-5 second backlight, no EQ, and halfway volume. The apple guidlines dont get me 14 hours of just music; I get about 5 hours of music and 1 1/2 hours of Video. IS there something wrong?

They are both structured similarly. if you have a faulty battery, then getting a nano isn't really a solution. Try getting your battery replaced. You are still under warranty, so try that before changing the model of your iPod.

Are you covered by warranty? if you have, and have the reciept, send it back wherever you got it from.

My battery lasts about 12 hours without the backlight on at about half volume, I've been using it everyday since whatever date it was that it was released. I also get an hour and a half of video with the backlight on. I'm pretty satisfied with my battery life, I'd suggest like everyone else, checking with Apple about the situation.

30 GB...; up to 2 hours of video playback
I think that Apple is misleading people by stating that battery can hold up to 14 hours of music which is not more than 8 or 9 hours.

Is it possible that I could exchange my Video for the Nano? I have the receipt to the video but it is opened. Any Ideas

You may be able to exchange it, but I doubt it. Unless it is faulty or there is a moneyback guarantee at the store, then i'd say you have to sell it.

Well my Video is faulty because I only get 4 hours of music and an hour- 1 1/2 of video. I probably will get a brand new video and I can sell that for like $285. Any other suggestions on how I can get a Nano from my Video? I just dislike the Video because of the battery and I usually listen to my iPod a lot but with the Video you have to be more careful and the whole thing is just bigger.

I got a 60gig Video Ipod and if I switch songs often and scroll through all of my songs which keeps the backlight on I barely get an hour before the battery goes to red. This is listening to music only at 3/4 volume no equilizer. I put the thing on shuffle and let it play without touching it and no backlight and I got 8 hours. Personally I think I should be able to switch songs alot and the battery should last 8 hours not less than 1. I am kind of pissed about it.
How do you guys charge your Video Ipod? Does anyone who uses a charger instead of using USB from PC get longer play times? I was just wondering. If you do then I will buy a charger.

I know what you mean. Espicially your 60GB is supposed to have 20 hours of music according to apple. I am having difficluty with my Video too. It's annonying how no one gets the battery life according to apple. Check it out I charge my iPod Video using the charger brick ($29.99). I fell that it charges my iPod relatively fast, but I have never charged my iPod througth the computer. It's kind of a pain because it doesn't charge when on standby. It's also inconvenient that you have to use a USB port epicially when traveling I'll see if apple will let me trade in my Video for a white 4gb nano. Hope I have helped solve ur problem

Turn you iPod on and let it play until the battery is dead and your ipod turns off. Next, charge it for four hours which is how long Apple says it takes to charge to 100%. Repeat this process again and you should notice an increase in the battery life. When I did this with mine I went from only six hours of battery life to over twelve.

Can this be done with any of iPod?
