click start>run> shutdown. see what happens , btw ill try my best to help but i have not got pc acces at home at the moment as im going to have to format it then ill be on and sort this. seen this a few times and ill check the HJT later.
I had the same problem. In my case it turned out to be the "InCD Helper" service. Before you do a shutdown, turn off this service. This took my computer a long time (a minute at least) before it finally shut down and I still got a warning that the service couldn't be shut down. After this try shutting down your computer. If it shuts down, you have the culprit. I am still trying to find a solution for this problem, other than disabling the service permanently. According to Nero, they fixed this problem back in 5/24/2004, but it started for me about the time I installed Nero 7 last month.
I have the identical problem. If you execute: NET STOP "InCD Helper" it takes about a minute or so to really stop. Then if you do a normal shutdown, the machine comes down OK. Any idea when they will fix this?
I have no idea of when they will fix it. I did notice that during the install of the Nero 7 suite, if you choose the custom install option all the Nero 7 components are selected as the baseline with the exception of the InCD feature. This gives me hope that at least they might recognize they have a problem, even if their current workaround is to disable this feature.
One further insight. While doing routine maintenance last night I had to reinstall Nero's InCD. Strangely enough, the computer shutdown problem went away. Searching back, I found that during a Nero install, it inserted an "UpperFilter" string in the registry for the DVD/CD-ROM drives containing InCDpass. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} If this "UpperFilter is removed", apparently the InCd Helper hangs on shutdown.
